Thread: Why Chelsea should get future Ballon Dor contender Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz is being linked with Chelsea for a deal near 70-85 million. This can prove to be an amazing deal in the near future. He is a Ballon Dor level player and can easily become one of the best in the world as well as the best in his postion. This is a must, let’s see why.
In this thread I will talk about:
- Player attributes (positive)
- Player attributes (improvement)
-How he fits into Chelsea
-Thoughts and opinions
Player attributes (positive):
Let’s start with his physique. Kai Havertz stands at 6’2 and has a great build on him and quite quick. His height is very key to his play as he’s a superb aerial player. In fact last season (18/19) he ranked 3rd most effective aerially player.
This means he had the 3rd highest aerial win rate winning 86 out of 188. For this season his percentage is 40.9% compared to last season’s 45.7%. Still at a elite level. Havertz is a player with extreme flair on him. He’s very atheistically pleasuring on the eye.
This can be especially due to his great passing technique. He is an incredible passer and decision maker. His passing percentage stands at 86% this season which is incredible for someone who plays so high up. His long balls have a success rate of 80.5% as well.
In comparison, Paul Pogba has a success rate of 76.2%. His assist count is at 5 with a rate of 0.24 P90 in the Bundesliga with xA sitting at 5.8. In comparison Coutinho’s is 0.39 P90 with xA at 0.23. He’s even outperforming Coutinho. Key passes are similar as well, both around 2.
If the stats aren’t enough to show you his passing skill set as well as his majestic, Ozil like, passing. Then look at this video. Focus on his weight of pass which is outrageous for someone of his age and the technique. He’s a freak of a player.
Let’s move on to his crossing. He’s crossing technique is similar to KDB. Obviously not as good but he loves to playing that high looping ball into the box. Havertz plays 1.36 passes into the box with 0.16 being crosses.
This is good but Havertz final balls in the final 3rd are usually the passes just before the ball into the penalty area. He helps with build up a lot and progressing the ball. This is shown by his shot creating actions P90 which is very good at 4.03.
Havertz ball carrying ability is clearly at a elite level. He carries it 53.5 times P90. Compare this with Jack Grealish’s 46.7 P90, who is know for being the best ball carrier in the league and you see his quality shine through.
Here’s a video showcasing Havertz’s close control. It’s one of his best attributes. He always drags in fouls which is why he’s fouled 1.23 times P90. Have a look!
Let’s move on to his shooting. He currently has 11 goals with xG on 7.6. Having a higher goals than xG is expected because Havertz is a very good finisher and a midfield meaning he shoots further out more. He averages a goal 0.45 P90 which is better than most strikers. Look!
He’s also a very versatile finisher (scores all types of goals) as you can see. He is also very versatile positionally being able to play 10, RM, RW, ST and even 8 at times. He is a confident player with aggrangance about his game. Lastly, he makes unmarked runs a lot.
Player attributes (improvement):
Havertz can be a bit clumsy and can lead him to losing the ball. He also doesn’t use his body enough like a Ruben would. Needs to add it to his game. He tends to go on the right hand side too much as well even when he’s playing 10.
How he fits into Chelsea:
Exbit 1: This would be the most popular one. For me it’s the one to go with as well. Havertz can also support James and Zyiech on the right and overload the opposition on the right, scary for any LB in the world. He also adds a goal threat at 10.
Exbit 2: Havertz at 10 usually drifts out to the right anyway so why not start him there. For me this position would bring the best out of Havertz. He is able to cut in and James will be overlapping. Has a nice shot in him and can use his ball carrying ability out wide more.
Exbit 3: This one is the least popular but it’s a mixture of both worlds. He can start on the right rather than drifting out of postion and play those killer passes. We can also have that overload on right with this. Unpopular but could be the best options with all considered.
Thoughts and opinions:
For me we should do everything we can to get this done. It’s not often Chelsea get the opportunity to get a future Ballon Dor level player at a decent price (these days). People might think we are neglecting the defence.
It is correct but I think Chelsea will be like Madrid in 2016/17 where our mentality is, however many you score we’ll score more. Games will end 4:3, 5:2 and etc but this team has granteed goals if we get Havertz. It’s not an option that comes around a lot.
Chelsea’s midfield and attack is one of the most versatile and unpredictable in the world. We can set up in pretty much any formation or system. It gives us a head start before each game. This is a deal I’m all for and I don’t see a good reason why not.
Havertz is for me the 3rd best talent in the Bundesliga behind Davies and Haaland. Chelsea it’s up to you!
The chances of it happening is low but we should put everything into making it happen. If it happens. Chelsea are back to being the big boys ladies and gentlemen. The ambitious shown is the most since Roman bought the club back in 2003. This is just the start!
