Georgia purchased Its touchscreen voting machines—which failed miserably today—from “Dominion, whose lobbyist, Jared Thomas, was Governor Brian Kemp’s chief of staff and press secretary from 2012 to 2015 when Kemp was secretary of state.” By @jennycohn1 1/ https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/12/17/how-new-voting-machines-could-hack-our-democracy/
“Dominion’s partner in the state is KNOWiNK, a supplier of electronic poll books, which are used to sign in voters and confirm voter registrations [and to activate the Dominion voting machines].” 2/
“KNOWiNK’s founder and CEO, Scott Leiendecker, is a former Republican election official whose wife donated $2,500 to the campaign of Georgia’s current secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, in November 2018.” 3/
It is my understanding that there were significant problems with Knowink’s e-pollbooks in Georgia today as well. Knowink e-pollbooks also failed catastrophically during Los Angeles county’s recent primary. 4/
Voters were pissed about the epic failure of Knowink’s e-pollbooks throughout LA county as well: “‘It was beyond a disgrace!’ shouted one commenter. ‘This is undermining our democracy,’ said another. A 3rd put it...more bluntly: ‘Dude, you fucked up.’” 5/ https://prospect.org/civil-rights/iowa-style-voting-disaster-in-los-angeles/
More from my article re: Dominion Voting, Georgia’s voting machine (BMD) vendor, which outsourced some of its programming to Serbia. 6/ https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/12/17/how-new-voting-machines-could-hack-our-democracy/
Dominion and another mega-vendor (ES&S) both “donated to Kentucky’s senior senator & Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell’s campaign earlier this year.” 7/ https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/12/17/how-new-voting-machines-could-hack-our-democracy/
“McConnell subsequently agreed to an appropriation of $250 million for purported “election security” funding that actually mandated no election security requirements whatsoever.” 8/
“Senator Ron Wyden, ... , who supports hand-marked paper ballots, has called this funding ... a ‘sham,’ noting that the money ‘can be used for anything relating to elections. Including giving states taxpayer dollars to buy insecure [touchscreen] voting machines [BMDs].’” 9/
Note that a new push for billions of dollars of more “election security” funding also wld allow the $$$ to be spent on dangerous new touchscreen voting machines & e-pollbooks. 10/
Hand marked paper ballots and paper voter lists can’t be hacked and don’t malfunction. But thus far, @RonWyden has been the only member of Congress to be vocal about them & to sound the alarm about these dangerous new touchscreen voting machines & e-pollbooks. 11/
