Re: “this slogan is bad”

I am saying this as someone who has been a marketing and branding professional for over ten years:
This is tone policing. You will never overthrow the system by making white liberals comfortable. Master’s house, master’s tools, etc.
I in no way believe that there are magic words which will convince the middleclass to get on board. This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of why people buy things in the first place. Until being pro cop carries an unshakable social stigma, liberals will not “buy” the movement
When there are social consequences for being racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, fatphobic THEN and only then do liberals follow suit. When they see no personal material benefit, people buy into things bc of the cache, prestige and desire to be loved and accepted.
Marketing is manipulative, activism shouldn’t be. The slogan is a slogan, is succinct and it’s accurate. The onus has to be on white liberals to educate themselves because they DESPERATELY want to be seen as allies, I think we’ve all seen that this past week.
The reason for the increase in hate crimes over the past four years shows the inverse is also true: when there are no perceived consequences for being a bigot, people tend to be more openly bigoted.
This is also why (if you safely can) white ppl need to confront their racist friends and family, not just now but from now on.
