@shaunking I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I’ve lived in the State of Massachusetts all my life. Let me be clear about @SenMarkey he has been detrimental to the black and brown neighborhoods of this state. https://twitter.com/shaunking/status/1270332197900374020
His co-sponsorship and advocacy for the 1994 crime bill has disproportionately affected black men and women. You can draw a line from the righteous rebellions we see in the street today to that bill and many other harmful policies.
His flip flop on the Hyde amendment is hurtful to black and brown women who stand at a disadvantage for reproductive health rights.
Ed Markey established a consistent pattern of voting for restrictions on women’s reproductive freedom. So much so that Republican lawmakers saw him as an ally for their anti-abortion agenda.
When a local activist asked him what he’s done for black and brown communities his response was “I brought the internet to black people in black neighborhoods” sidenote: we still don’t get good WiFi in Roxbury, Massachusetts
Not once has Ed Markey come to neighborhoods of color during this run for Senate. Instead of protesting with communities of color regarding George Floyd, he chose the relative safety of a college campus. That’s not leadership.
Mr. King, you couldn’t know much of this and I respect your skin in the game, but Ed Markey is not generational change for Black and Brown lives In Massachusetts, he’s the same voice using the same tactics to keep us down.
