2./ Why does this matter? All through the GRA Reform consultation this year we were assured by @S_A_Somerville the single sex exceptions in the Equality Act (2010) would be unaffected. 3./ These exceptions were enshrined in law to protect women's and girls' dignity as well as to ensure their safety. Here's the close-up of that official Scottish govt assurance in the consultation which was often repeated by @NicolaSturgeon 👇
4./ Here's the guidance to the Equality Act that explains the circumstances in which single sex services and spaces are permitted, for example, where someone may "reasonably object if the user is of the opposite sex". 👇 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/notes/division/3/16/20/7
5./ Here's a detail from the same guidance outlining what these exceptions in practise would permit including single sex changing rooms, single sex wards and woman only personal services such as massage or therapy.👇
6./ But if @kirstySNP is now arguing transwomen aren't only women (which is ...ahem...arguable in itself) but also female how does she suggest Single Sex exceptions could remain "unchanged"? The vast majority of transwomen don't have surgery, and so remain male-bodied.
7./ And the new definition of 'trans' covers everything from cross-dressing to "gender queer" meaning many transwomen look nothing like the transsexuals the Equality Act imagined. Some make only the minimal effort to pass like notable bearded "lesbian" Alex Drummond does.👇
8./ That's why trans access effectively also opens the door to any bloke at all including non-trans blokes to access single sex spaces. Especially since we're told by activists we should assume anyone who looks like a bloke entering a women's space IS actually a transwoman.👇
9./ In debates during the G R Reform consultation we were assured that exceptions might be permitted on the basis that, say, only women born female (or assigned female ...if we play along with the nonsense of the trans mythology for a moment) would have access.
10./ While that would be difficult to police the rule in itself would apart from anything else have acted as a powerful psychological barrier to any non-trans bloke wandering into girls' or women's spaces. We never really trusted the Scottish govt's heart was in this compromise.
11./ Now @KirstySNP has said as much. If anyone who says they're a transwomen IS female no matter how little of the process of gender reassignment they embark upon you have redefined single sex spaces out of existence. You might as well put up a sign saying 'Any Bloke Welcome'.
12./ That would mean your 80 year old mother couldn't object if someone who looks like a big bearded bloke is to help her bathe in a hospital. Or your disabled sister can't object if a bruiser who says he's trans (this week) gives her intimate personal care in a care home.
13./ They could be accused of transphobia and so might you if you supported their objections. We always knew this was the final intention of the SNP's super-woke agenda: to rob the definitions of male and female of any meaning. We just didn't think they'd admit it so soon.
14./ And lest you think this is only about single sex spaces when you confuse male and female it implodes the meaning of gay. Here's @ryanjohnbutcher of Pink News saying it's "transphobic" for gay men not to consider sex with 'men' who have vaginas. It's not a joke apparently.👇
