Thread: I feel like people need a SHORT history lesson on Winston Churchill because they’re lost & keep saying “He saved us from the Nazis” so here I am.

At the end of WW2 Britain had to rebuild the country and faced a labour shortage so in 1948 the British government INVITED people from the Caribbean to work & live in the UK. They began arriving. Churchill became P.Minister in 1951 for a second time after his 1st term (1940-45)
It should be noted he was a staunch upholder of “The Empire”. You know the thing created through global murder, torture & enslavement? In fact in 1942 he stated “I have not become the King’s first minister to preside over the liquidation of the British Empire”.
I digress, So on the 3rd February 1954, 3 years after he became P.Minister again, 6 years after immigrants were invited to help rebuild Britain, 9 years after they helped win WW2 and 36 years after they helped win WW1 he directly targets immigrants. See irony of attached pic
Under the agenda item 'Coloured Workers' he states 'Problems will arise if many coloured people settle here. Are we to saddle ourselves with colour problems in UK? Attracted by Welfare State. Public opinion in UK won't tolerate it once it gets beyond certain limits.'
Churchill’s racist narratives emboldened far-right racist groups such as the Teddy Boys & the White Defence League across Britain. The very people who fought for and helped rebuild the country were fighting another war against racist violence endorsed but its own Prime Minister.
Tensions grew & life for immigrants became more dangerous. On 29th August 1958 things overspilt following a mob of 3-400 White people attacking the houses of West Indian residents in Notting Hill. It resulted in a riot that lasted until 5th Sept. It’s the reason we have Carnival.
In short, I will NEVER rate Winston Churchill and I don’t give ONE CARE for his statue. You telling me “he saved us from the Nazis” means nothing when he endangered and attacked the very Black people that helped him do it. Black Lives do not matter to YOU so Bun you too.
