It’s born of a thesis. You correctly assuming that the rug is going to get pulled because of an isolated incident. Then you short on high leverage with a tight stop across many alts. Some get stopped. Some don’t. Those that don’t dump 15-30%. And you nail it across many pairs.
What happens after is irrelevant. You’ve made a lot of money in a short amount of time. Now you trade it defensively until you spot another very asymmetrical opportunity.
