It's THREAD time. 🔥

This one is inspired by the man himself @naval.

I've been listening to a lot of his podcast episodes and I wanted to put this out.

This will be by far my longest thread, so behold:

Why your Side Hustle will always outperform your 9 to 5 - THE THREAD. đź’¸
The point of this thread is to inspire and convince you to start your own online side hustle or to keep at it.

Why?

Because the likelihood of you reaching financial freedom on a 9 to 5 is minimal and I'll explain why.

If you want to reach your dream life, you need your own gig
1 - Scarcity.

On most 9 to 5's you are taught low-value skills.

Afterwards you'll be taught to repeat tasks using this skill.

You'll do the same boring thing every other day and you'll get paid every month a limited amount of money to do it.
You're told by society that this how you're supposed to live because it's safe.

This applies even more on high status 9 to 5 jobs where people look up to you as a successful person.

But this is just outside perception, status doesn't equate to actual wealth and freedom.
You're still answering to someone else.

And while that's the case and your life is dependant on someone else's say, you'll always live in a scarcity mindset.

Because subconsciously you know that if things go south, you're screwed.

The 9 to 5 is the unsafest environment.
So you pretty much live in scarcity.

You think that resources are limited (and they are at the current time).

As a result, you accept less favorable situations and let yourself get stepped on because you don't want to lose your livelihood conditions, which is also normal.
As a result of that, you'll live an unfulfilled life where you're trading time for money.

Relying on someone else to survive and live "comfortably".

But worry not.

Your side online side hustle is here to save you.
2 - Specific Skills vs Majority

The first major problem on 9 to 5s and why you can't rely on them for life is this.

In most of them, you're easily replaceable.

What was taught to you can easily be taught to somebody else.

And this removes leverage from you.
Why?

Because your boss knows this.

And he could give a f*ck about you.

At least, most bosses.

He always comes out ahead of you in this equation.

So your life pretty much fully relies on his judgment.

More scarcity for you.
The advantage (and disadvantage for some) of your online side hustle is that in order to start you need to develop specific skills.

Skills that once you learn them, they'll serve you for the rest of your life.

And all of them are in some way connected and feed off each other.
Let me give you a practical example.

You start a twitter side hustle selling digital assets on gumroad as I did.

You study how to create a really good digital product but now you have to sell it.

You're introduced to marketing, sales, copywriting, influence, networking etc...
Now you start learning about these as well.

These complement each other in some way.

Not only that, these are high-income skills, learn them and you'll be able to apply them in various areas.

And you can now take advantage of such skills to find better opportunities.
You also create a domino effect on skill learning.

As you'll be always trying to find new ways to expand on what you currently have.

What starts as a small seed will branch out to various high-income skills that will eventually create wealth for you.
3 - Learning/Earning cap

This is also another problem you face on 9 to 5s.

Your earning and learning cap is very limited.

You can only perfect a repeatable action so much.

You can only go so far in a company.
In your side hustle, there's literally no cap.

There's always something new to learn, something new to add up, something to improve on.

Not only that, but it's also evergreen.

What you're doing right now will still be there tomorrow.

The asset never really goes anywhere.
It also gives you accountability over your actions.

You run more "risks" but you're also solely responsible for them.

Which means you're likely to put a lot more effort and go the extra mile because if you fail, there's no one else to blame.
4 - "Hard work"

If you're a competent person, you'll always have to work hard.

Either in the 9 to 5 or in the side hustle, the hard work and the hustle always plays a part in it.

The difference is in the learning and progress curve.
See 100 hours of hard work on a 9 to 5 is very different from 100 hours of hard work on your side hustle.

Why?

Because in your 9 to 5 you'll be repeating actions over and over.

You're doing work but you're not actually achieving anything new, you're not progressing further.
You're stuck in place and not going anywhere.

In your side hustle, it's very different, you're constantly progressing.

Not only the asset you're building is becoming better by the day but you're also becoming a better asset yourself as a person by the day.
This new-found knowledge, these new skills are now part of your arsenal.

Even if you fail hard on this business or adventure, you now can start again another one with the new-found knowledge you have.

And this will take you far in life.
And even if you eventually want to get a new 9 to 5, you can now take advantage of better opportunities given your new set of skills.

You only win on your side hustle because there's no real risk.
There's only the perception of risk.

If you don't do really dumb and stupid decisions, you won't die, you won't get in a really bad financial situation and you won't go to jail.

You'll be just fine, sure your ego can take a hit but that's about it.
5 - Leverage

But let's say you actually succeed in your side hustle.

Let's say you don't fail and you actually start profiting from the asset you've built.

This creates cashflow.

You now have more money coming in and this gives you leverage, in more ways than you think.
Not only you get more money a.k.a capital leverage.

But now you're starting to get ahead of those around you.

I'll give you my example.

I've made more money in the first month of my side hustle than from my paycheck.

I'm also really good at my 9 to 5 job.
What does this mean though?

It means that If I wanted to, I could quit at any moment (and I will.).

The tables have been reversed.

I no longer need them and they need me.

Why? Because to get someone as good at my current job they'd have to invest time and money into it.
And given the current situation with COVID, that's not something they can easily afford at the current time.

What does this mean?

It means the game has changed.

Now they're aware that I can dip, now I live in abundance and they live in scarecity.
And what advantages has this brought me in such a short period of time?

A new office and a better paycheck, but that's not all.

I'm also treated differently, with more respect just for that fact.

This is the type of leverage a side hustle gives you.
Your self-confidence also goes up.

Because you're so much more aware that you now possess skills and knowledge that only a very small percentage of people possess.

And by default you know that you'll be able to achieve better, so your financial stress just keeps lowering.
6 - Networking

The number of networking opportunities that will come from your online side hustle will never be comparable.

If you're good at what you do, someone will notice.

If you're showing up, putting massive action and standing out from the crowd, you'll be noticed.
In a 9 to 5 this is rarely a possibility and it's even rarer when it comes to opportunity quality.

Because you're limited to the people around you, that can only go so far.
7 - Scalability

And also, you're online side hustle will always have scalable potential.

There's no barrier holding you.

The only way is literally up.

It's just a matter of time and consistency.

Think about it.
You create an asset.

A solution to a problem.

You sell it to a person.

You can now scale that to an entire market.

You just have to study that market and find ways to provide that solution to more people.

This is the power of the Internet.
8 - Time Vs Money.

Finally, you can create automated systems and make your money work for you.

And this is why your side hustle will always eventually outperform your 9 to 5.

It's just a matter of you sticking to it.
Will it be hard? Sure it will.

Will you bleed more and go longer without seeing a dime?

Sure.

But you're also more accountable and take more personal risk.

Which means that when the reward hits, it will be on a much larger scale.
And that's why your side hustle will always outperform your 9 to 5.
That's the end folks, hope you enjoyed it.
