1/ Americans live in a dream world.
We think the “race problem” is solvable. But it isn't.
Large, scientifically-documented, and persistent differences in average IQ between racial groups make it unsolvable.
Let me explain why.
1/ Americans live in a dream world.
We think the “race problem” is solvable. But it isn't.
Large, scientifically-documented, and persistent differences in average IQ between racial groups make it unsolvable.
Let me explain why.
2/ On an individual and group level, IQ is a powerful predictor of things like job performance, criminality, SES, anti-social behavior, and educational attainment — in other words, precisely those things that drive or impede success in an advanced society.
3/ Intelligence sets the boundaries for what individuals and groups are capable of achieving. And these boundaries are largely immovable because differences in intelligence are substantially genetic in basis, including at the group level. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160289619301886?fbclid=IwAR22QGUYGfS_QdzI_o3y4oYmiOPp9lz9Y34l8hGb7CdE9u7UPQhQargGvSQ
4/ So why should we expect equal racial outcomes given these significant gaps in average IQ?
Asian, 105
White, 100
Hispanic, 90
Black, 85
Asian, 105
White, 100
Hispanic, 90
Black, 85
5/ The answer is that we shouldn't.
Unsurprisingly, in almost every meaningful measurable social outcome that exists (e.g., earnings, crime rate), we see the following performance ranking, perfectly matching the IQ ranking:
1. Asian
2. White
3. Hispanic
4. Black

6/ Note that immigrant Asians — many of whom came to the US with few financial resources — almost immediately outpace blacks, and ultimately whites, as well, making a mockery of the claim that racism limits success in America, while also proving the predictive power of IQ.
7/ I believe that the left, which has spent decades shutting down discussion of race and IQ, has unconsciously given up on the idea of increasing the *actual* ability of blacks, which is why we're seeing it change its commitment to equal opportunity to one of equal outcomes.
8/ This brings me to the most important point in this thread: Race gaps in average intelligence make equal outcomes *impossible* without social and political coercion.
9/ This means that our institutions, and then the state, are going to step in to make sure that activities in society are rigged so that low-performing groups are represented in percentages roughly equal to percentage of total polulation.
What will happen when this occurs?
What will happen when this occurs?
10/ A number of things will happen, and none of them are good:
First, the immigration of ambitious high-IQ Asians — basically the only demographic trend in the US that ameliorates the impact of the millions of low-IQ Mexicans streaming across our border — will slow.
First, the immigration of ambitious high-IQ Asians — basically the only demographic trend in the US that ameliorates the impact of the millions of low-IQ Mexicans streaming across our border — will slow.
11/ Second, resentment in whites and Asians will build to dangerous levels, increasing racial tensions.
Third, America's competitiveness will be throttled, making China's ascendancy even quicker and more certain.
Third, America's competitiveness will be throttled, making China's ascendancy even quicker and more certain.
12/ Fourth, the primary group that forcing equal outcomes was intended to help — blacks — will become even less motivated to expend the necessary effort to increase its *actual* competitiveness within US society.
13/ Fifth, the existence of the rigging, which, e.g., will take the form of things like quotas and actions meant to hobble Asians and whites (such as removal of gifted programs and weakening of college admissions standards), will be apparent to everyone paying attention.
14/ This will be the case even though our institutions will attempt to cover it up by, e.g., not making the relevant data publicly available and creating and enforcing a language of obfuscation — much as colleges do now with affirmative action admissions.
15/ The supposed beneficiaries of the new regime of equal outcomes (primarily blacks) will be not unjustifiably viewed as being unable to compete on their own abilities — even more so than now.
So, forcing equal outcomes will make things worse, not better.
So, forcing equal outcomes will make things worse, not better.
16/ Candid discussion of perhaps the most important variable that affects group inequalities — IQ gaps and their partial or substantial genetic basis — is not possible in America, and likely never will be.
17/ But as long as our discourse and policies remain disconnected from these biological (and related cultural) realities we're never going to get past “the race problem.”
Which is why it will continue to be intractable, unsolvable, hopeless, and perhaps ultimately fatal.

And now, having gotten that of my chest, I will return to my Twitter vacation.

Twitter character limits make it difficult to make points that require deeper explication, so I just want to add that "Hispanics" is not a racial group (it's a census category), and there's significant IQ variation within it, depending upon ancestral group, etc.
