how to protest
The use of Tear Gas is increasing. Here are some ways to tackle Tear Gas
Traffic Cone in Action
In addition to umbrellas protesters have fastened their own shields out of barrels and other more rigid items.
Another way to handle tear gas is with welding gloves/anti-heat gloves, a waterproof bag, water, and a respirator. Grab the tear gas and through it into a water filled bag and shake it.
Do NOT pick up these canisters after they've been fired unless you want your hand immensely burnt.
If pepper sprayed use a bottle of dishwasher soap, milk & toilet paper

Apply the dishwasher w/ a little water & use the TP to remove the pepper particles. Pour milk. Repeat as necessary to alleviate pain.

Do NOT use water by itself. This will spread the pepper spray.
Another method that can be used to distract, confuse, and disable police and their response is by using the strongest laser pointers you can find.
If taking a phone turn off location services & put your phone into airplane mode. Better yet get a burner phone or sim card.

Turn off fingerprint & face unlock. Use a very strong password instead. You can be compelled to provide a face or finger print

Plan ahead of time how to get in contact with each other and where to meet if separated.

Download Berkanan Messenger or another Bluetooth messaging service. This uses your bluetooth to directly connect with others rather than a cell signal https://apps.apple.com/us/app/berkanan-messenger/id1289061820
Write an emergency number on your arm beforehand. As well as any of the hundreds, if not thousands, of lawyers phone numbers who have agreed to represent protesters pro bono. VERY VERY IMPORTANT unless you wanna sit in jail.
If you are organizing a protest know your rights via @ACLU
If you are attending a protest know your rights via @ACLU
If you want to take pictures or video at a protest know your rights via @ACLU
If you are stopped by a police at a protest know your rights via @ACLU
If stopped by đź‘®:

“Am I being detained.” - No. Leave.

“I am invoking my right to a lawyer. I will not speak to you without my lawyer” - This indicates you are exercising your right to counsel.

“I am invoking my right to stay silent.” - NEVER TALK TO THE COP(S) OR SAY ANYTHING.
NEVER sign ANYTHING without a lawyer present. Do NOT speak while at the jail or in the cop car. This is recorded.
Wear HEAVY CLOTHES. You want your body to be covered so tear gas does not adhere to it. This includes wearing a mask/face covering. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!

Wear BLACK. If everyone wears black it is harder for the cops to target unique individuals
