Many folks have asked me about Stormé DeLarverie over the last couple of days. Mostly about pronouns. Stormé was a Black Butch Lesbian who threw the 1st punch at Stonewall.

Stormé DeLarverie used different pronouns throughout life. The latter part, was mostly he/him.

So to be clear here, Stormé DeLarverie was a he/him black butch cis lesbian. Grace Chu interviewed Stormé at the S.V.A. 41st Conference & Reunion after Pride in 2010. She asked Willson Henderson (Founder of the S.V.A) which pronouns to use for Stormé during the interview...

Willson's response was this: "If it looks like a HE & talks like a HE & walks like a HE & acts like a HE and, particularly, dresses like a HE... then it's posilutely a HE! Storme has publicly lamented for decades that one of the psychotic problems of the GLBTQRS community is...
... that it cannot even agree on what to call itself! My mother & Storme have met many times over the decades, including shows, dinners & forums, and my mother always described Storme as 'a perfect gentleman'! Storme is equally fond of 'Lady Mom'!"

The Interview USED to be...
...available to read on the AfterEllen Website. Here's the strange thing about that. Since renowned transphobes bought up AfterEllen, the article has been removed. This is not by coincidence or accidental in anyway. Transpbobes constantly seek to invalidate cis lesbian history...
... In this case, the history of 1 our Black Butch Lesbian Icons, because for many years, he was a cis he/him pronoun using lesbian, which of course, transphobes will have everyone believe are never used by cis lesbians (Yes, I know, they lack logic!). So there you go...
Pronoun question answered. You can read more about Stormé on the S.V.A (Stonewall Veterans Association) Website. Link:

Little explanation on WHY the invalidation of cis He/Him lesbians has become a thing:

Transphobia. Plain and simple.

Cis He/Him using lesbians are not trans obviously but the use of He/Him pronouns by cis lesbians has become a transphobe talking point, purely because...
of transphobes desire to attack trans folks. There is an extremely LONG HISTORY of cis lesbians using He/Him pronouns (Read Leslie Feinberg's book - Stone Butch Blues). It's not a new thing. It's rooted in Butch Lesbian culture. Naturally, transphobes take issue with this as...
aside from the fact that it demonstrates that pronouns do not always = gender (as in sex), it's about presentation. It's about a large number of cis lesbians who feel a disconnect from She/Her pronouns usage and can, at anytime, use ANY PRONOUN. Pronouns are a big deal...
to transphobes in their war on trans folks (trans women in particular). They use them as a weapon to invalidate trans folks & non-binary folks by insisting that you MUST use the pronouns that indicate your "sex at birth".

Transphobes are fuckmuppets, obviously.
Last point. When Stormé's life ended, she was using she/her pronouns again. As I mentioned, her use of pronouns was varied throughout her life. She was a truly remarkable person and will remain a huge part of Stonewall & LGBTQ+ collective history.
Many thanks to Jon for tracking this down. This is most likely the removed AfterEllen article by Grace Chu, since the date coincides and it's absent from their website now: https://twitter.com/jribbens/status/1268189277554380800
My guess as to why the now transphobic AfterEllen website removed the article. Again, this is my opinion. It makes the most sense to me given the sites transphobic agenda since the take over by transphobes. Re-writing lesbian history to "own the trans". https://twitter.com/BellaRizinti/status/1268247603910754304
