THREAD: Spring semester is over. Campuses have been largely empty for months. And yet. Black student groups are demanding change — in administrator funding choices, among faculty representation, and in relationships with local PDs. Here's a list of what I've found. @ me with more
. @BSU_Pace is calling for mandatory anti-racism trainings for all faculty and staff. They say all students should be required to take 6 hours of anti-racism training and 2 critical race theory classes. They want investigations of microaggressions
. @maliyahomer, prez of University of Louisville's Black Student Union, is demanding that the campus PD rescind its partnership with Louisville's metro PD, among other items. The group wants action fast — as fast as the creation of a "Free Speech Zone."
. @UCRBSU is asking for the immediate cancellation or optional choice of exams, "due to the extreme circumstances" of COVID + anti-black police violence. Wants more support services for black students and divestment from UCPD.
North Central College students are responding to an email sent yesterday from the president.
