Second order consequences and the terrifying, nazi-fueled future we're headed for if things don't change.

A thread
Remember doing the science experiment in school where you teacher attaches a bowling ball to a string, puts it right in front of his face, drops it, and then doesn't move when it swings back?

Simple laws of friction and momentum right?
Well, cultures are just the opposite.

Imagine what would happen if that ball not only gained more energy as it swung, but the rope got longer.

What would that have done to your science teacher's face?
That's what I fear we'll be experiencing in the next 10-20 years.

We're already seeing that swing move in one direction.

Don't believe me? Let's break it down.
Who are the most indefensible villains that haunt our past and continue to be used as a scare tactic today?

What's the epithet that will get you canceled quicker than anything else?

Nazi
And for good reason too. An evil ideology, led by a terrible leader, with nothing good about them.

There's a reason they're so derided and hated - they deserve it.
Now think about every step of moral "progress" we've made since then.

Our views on race, sex, authority, propaganda, etc.

It's all been reactionary to who and what the Nazis were and stood for.
If you oppose any of those new morals, what are you accused of being?

You guessed it - a Nazi.

Now, this was good for a while because (once again) the Nazis were awful and the pendulum had swung way too far in their direction.
Here's a part that may be uncomfortable for you - especially because a lot of you are going to think that I'm agreeing with or justifying what they did because I've tried to understand what happened.

It wasn't some random "Oh we hate jews, and gay people, kill them all" thing
It was rooted in how they were treated post World War 1 and what happened with the Weimar Republic.

The more you learn about that, the easier it is to see that the entire Nazi situation was, of itself, a momentum-gaining swing against the culture that preceded it.
But let's get back to post World War 2 and how things are now.

We made it past the bottom of the arc a long time ago and have culturally been climbing back up the other direction.

Views on race, sex, parenting, patriarchy, school, media, and a million other things have changed
And if you aren't on board with those changes?

You're a Nazi.

But what if all of those changes, those overcorrections aren't actually good?

What if they go against everything that is good about being human?
Well, like we've already established, if you don't toe the line on weight lifting, vaccines, systemic racism, feminism, stay-at-home moms, or anything else - you get to be accused of being an alt-right Nazi and are in danger of being canceled.
That bowling ball continues climbing and anyone who dares to say, "that's higher than it should go" is shoved into the box of wanting the bowling ball back on the other side of the arc.
And here's where it gets really scary - those who are pulling that bowling ball are starting to lose their grip, while still trying to pull it up even higher and at a faster rate!

And those who recognize it are being lambasted and canceled harder and faster than ever before.
So what happens when the ball slips? What happens when it starts its inevitable swing back in the other direction?

That's when we will see an absolute hell.

That's when we'll see a culture and government that makes Hitler look like a kid playing with toys.
You want slavery? Gladiator arenas? Child sacrifice? Public tortures and executions? The absolute destruction of anyone who disagrees?

I certainly don't - even if the people who were in favor of that didn't come after me because of my adherence to traditional beliefs.
I. Do. Not. Want. That. World.

But the more we keep pushing our post-modern culture,

The more we keep villainizing the heroes of our past,

The more we cancel anyone who isn't fully in line,

The more likely it is we'll get there

And it sounds like a literal hell.
