Working for free was my gift.
Here's what a year in sales can teach anybody about life, work and play.

(1/20) What you say doesn't matter as much as saying it with confidence.
If your idea seems good enough and you chose to lead, people will follow.
A confident person eases others' doubts just by showing up.

(2/20) Everybody wants to give you advice.
It's ok to listen, but it's not ok to follow advice just to please others.
Even if they're good at giving it,
They have no idea what your circumstances are so it's often irrelevant.

(3/20) Ads are overrated. Trust relationships.
If ads can get you inside the building, relationships can get you to the pent house.
There is no marketing technique more powerful than making friends.

(4/20) People want to buy, but you need to hold their hand.
Have a system and guide people through it.
They won't buy if it implies too much willpower.
You bring the energy, they bring the money.

(5/20) Filtering is the ultimate skill.
-> Not all information is relevant.
-> Not every topic should be argued.
-> Not every feeling should be felt.
The more you learn to ignore, the more you can focus on important matters.

There are skills I didn't include that you need to know.

-> Persuasion
-> Confidence
-> Praise
-> Listening
-> Validation
-> Humor
-> Basic Psychology
They're all included in The Psychologist's Handbook.

(6/20) Overthinking comes from poor preparation.
The reason you overthink is because you wasted your past and worry about the repercussions on your future.
PPPPP -> Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance

(7/20) Walks are underrated.
Your mind is like a phone and everything you do drains the battery life.
Going out for a walk is like plugging yourself to the nature outlet.
Sage mode, if you will.

(8/20) You can go through anything with a friend at your side.
No matter how hard life gets, math always proves true:
Any burden is lighter when two people carry it.

(9/20) Speak slow.
The reason you rush is because you think you'll lose people's attention if you don't.
This is not true.
Speak slow, control the frame and people will fit into it.

(10/20) Always pay for the first date.
This applies to love, friends, leads and business partners.
They could pay for it themselves, but you need to show friendliness before you scale.

(11/20) Communicating Skills are non-negotiable.

-> Humor
Learn them and they will take good care of you.

(12/20) Good design goes a long way.
You could still send the message across with poor design,
But people would rather buy from a nice image than from plain text.

(13/20) Fluff and buzzwords are suicide.
All these do is increase the distance between the speaker and the listener.
Know what you want to say, then say it.

(14/20) Never assume.
When you assume, you're working to fix a reality that may not exist.
Ironically, taking the time to verify stuff for yourself can save you lots of it.

(15/20) Pride and bureaucracy are best friends.
Bureaucracy wants to see you do well, as long as they do better.
Be careful about questioning corporate decisions. They don't want to hear truth, they want to believe theirs.

(16/20) Have a notebook.
Your mind sucks at
-> Memorizing
-> Prioritizing
-> Logic
Writing stuff down will help you
-> Clear up mental space
-> Get things done
-> Come up with new ideas

(17/20) Ask for help.
Not asking for help will make up for a good story.
The problem is you probably won't do anything worth telling.

(18/20) Learn names.
Humans love being looked at, even though nobody's looking.
Learn somebody's name and you'll make them feel important.
Most people don't so you'll stand out by default.

(19/20) Drawing your own game plan will do more for you than following somebody else's.
Ask for guidance, but don't imitate others' style.
Find yours, adjust it and make it work.

(20/20) Know when it's time to move on.
There comes a time when you've learnt enough.
Staying is suicide and saying goodbye is growth.

In this social world, you'll fail without social skills and a basic understanding of psychology.
