Under this system, my job as Head of Research for an influential think-tank is considered "unskilled" and I'm only allowed to work it because of where I'm from. https://twitter.com/pritipatel/status/1262430422954389504
Let's dive into this a bit. Of the 70 points required, if I was applying for my current job under this system I would only rate 30. I wouldn't even make up the 50 *required* points.

1) Official sponsor - Let's assume that CW wants me, so yes. PASS - 20 points.
2) Job at appropriate level - CW doesn't hire based on education or background, we only care if you can show you can do the job. Even in the laser industry, I've never worked a job that demanded a minimum of a PhD.
FAIL - Required field, application rejected.
3) Speak English - Yes. Also fluent Scots and a little Gaelic but those indigenous British languages don't count (unless you're a Gaelic teacher who also speaks English)

Pass. 10 points.
4) Salary

One of the implications of working for a donor-funded org is that I'm paid significantly less than I could get if I went into private, corporate lobbying (near six-figure offers have been made and declined).

0 points.

5) Job on shortage list

Nope. And not likely to be. Government doesn't like to encourage folk who hold them to account.

0 points.
5) Education at PhD level.

Yes, I do have a PhD and it's in a STEM subject - but it's considered "not relevant" by the UK Government. See point 2).

0 Points.
Maybe I should move to a country that *does* value my skills (It's still a possibility given the way my partner is being treated by UKGov).

Of course, they made getting off this island harder too.
