HAUNTED STORIES FROM DELHI . Stories and anecdotes that i have collected over last 20 years from my wanderings in Delhi. I will keep adding as i go through my old diaries but here for 2 for tonight .

1) The call center - Those were the days of BPO boom in gurgoan in mid 2000
This fairly new call center had started operations in an office that was built on old graveyard . Other than occasional scary sightings that someone claimed on smoke breaks, it was pretty regular place . There was an employee - Extremely good at her job ,
She was in outbound call center making sales calls to sell mobile phone plans . She was extremely good and had hit rate that was way above all others . One day she was moved to inbound customer care due to staffing issues . After few calls , she got into long
Inbound call that lasted about 45 mins . After the call she seemed very distressed and left work stating health reasons and didn’t return back at all . Also, next day her 2 colleagues that were sitting on either side of her while she received the call - died .
They pulled out call recording of that 45 min call . Although the call lasted 45 mins, there were no voices on the recording . Just muffled sounds.
The HR went to her house but the owner said that no such person lived there. Background checks were virtually unknown those times
HR was somehow able to trace the address of her parents through her educational documents .
Her parents were in complete disbelief when they told them about their daughter. There was no way their dutiful and diligent daughter could just vanish from the job.
Especially when she had been dead for 4 years.
2) Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal - This place is 14th century hunting lodge situated near jhandewalan and karol bagh metro station inside the central ridge . There is no documented history of the place as to who & why it was built - there are couple of different versions
But since its not relevant to the haunted part , I will skip the history. The sign outside the place warns the tourist to leave before sun set . There was a time when delhi police actually use to cordon off the place in the evening
The locals have witnessed very shrill crying of woman coming out of the mahal at night and there have been many such reports. Many years ago - the kite manja makers ( kite thread) of karol bagh used to leverage the large courtyard and airy surroundings of the mahal to
dry their manja. They finally stopped going after strange instances. They used to fall asleep ( even when they didnt want to) and someone used to pull their hair and ears very badly and used to laugh on their faces . Even if they wanted they could not open their eyes as if they
were under spell .
Then just few years ago , a very famous photo walk group was conducting photo walk here. 2 of the walkers went deep inside the jungle and saw strange white well . They took the photograph of the well and went to call others
When others came , the well was not there. Also in the photograph while you could see the jungle , the well was not visible. In both of their cameras .
Now one other photographer ( who was not part of the walk) , heard this story from his friends who were part
of the photowalk and decide to go to mahal alone next day. He also saw the white well and more importantly , the well was showing up in his camera. All excited , he called up his friends and they decided to meet next day in his house .
Next day, the man was found dead in his apartment . The house was bolted from inside, no forced entry , nothing stolen. Cause of death - drowning . There was no bath tub in the house, even the bucket in the bathroom had no water . There was no photo of well in the camera.
Third story is up -
3) Khooni nadi of Rohini - There are different versions of this one . However , all have few commonalities . It allures people to itself and drowns them . It’s at max a stream ( as you can see from picture ) and not deep at all
And yet people drown in it . Here is the version that I have heard from old timers .
Rohini - prior to becoming this large residential suburb was largely agricultural. The son of rich farmer made a girl pregnant . He promised to marry her and asked her
To meet him at the nadi . The girl left her house wearing red suit and dupatta and never returned back . Her body was recovered from the nadi after few days
Soon after the farmers with land around the nadi started hearing crying noises
The farm animals who used to drink water from the nadi became aggressive , attacked people and started behaving weirdly . The weeds and poisonous plants started taking over the land and crops started to die
As urbanization started and houses started coming up around the nadi . Some people who lived in the area starred getting this weird feeling of jumping in the nadi . Most of them had been cheated upon and it was as if someone was calling them to safety
And alluring them to jump to end the pain . Also the local tantric and babas also started recommending people to put grains and fruits etc in the Nadi to people who came to them with problems
One day - a man who was depressed jumped in the nadi - however he immediately regretted it and managed to come out alive . He described to his friend the entire story - He was standing on the bridge , depressed because of failed love and he started hearing
These soothing voices of woman in his head - inviting him to jump , telling him she will take care of her , telling him it will be ok and pain will end and so he jumped
But he regrets it immediately and tries to swim out and that’s when he felt someone
Pulling him down and holding his legs . With much different difficulty he was able to get out .

After few days the man was found dead in what appeared to be suicide . Hanging from fan with red dupatta around his neck . However what could not be explained was
The dupatta was ages old and tattered to pieces . Even if someone pulled it slightly it would be shredded to pieces - so how did it take weight of a man ?
STORY 4 and 5 updated . These are from 80s and one do them got quiet a bit of international media attention .
4) That corner bungalow at Green Park : Green park is one of the most expensive real estate in Delhi . Lots of old money and large bungalows.
The famous rajander da dhabba then was a actual makeshift dhabba on the road opposite the market it owns now . Behind the dhabba was a large dumpster and behind which were few bungalows . In one of the bungalows lived an elderly couple . They had 2 sons
One was settled in US with wife and 5-6 yr old kid . The other was a drug addict who was thrown out . That summer the son was to travel to meet them from US . The couple were eagerly waiting and buying lots of toys etc for the grand kid
However , they were found murdered one night . Nothing was stolen and it looked like a property dispute . The son travelled from US with family for the last rites . Since his son was too young to understand - they didn’t tell him about the death and wanted to
Wrap everything in 1-2 days . The kid spent most of the days with his maternal grandparents and was with his parents at his dada , dadi house only for couple of hour. And he was mostly with some relative or servant on the 1st floor barsati so that he was nt subjected to mourning
On the way back to US , parents were generally talking with the kid if he liked spending time with Nani, nana. He said he did but not as much as playing with dada dadi on the 1st floor with the new toys they opened up for him .
There were stories of couple sometimes laughing and sometimes sobbing and sounds and lights of kids toys coming from the house ...
Story 5 - House number W13 of Greater Kailash . Another elderly couple were murdered in the house in 1986 and their bodies were buried in the water tank behind the house . It was suspected that their yoga guru killed them for property as the couple did not
Have any heirs. The neighbors complained of screams and bone chilling voices emanating from this house .Some also saw “phantom like figures” walking down the terrace of the house . There also have been reports of faces looking out of the window
In 2016 , after almost 27 years the house was bought by a family who conducted 3 day long havan prior to revamping the house . The police has also found that it was actually a robbery by local gang and not yoga guru . Haven’t heard anything ever since
NUMBER 6 IS UP :
The ghost buster from Delhi - He was a pilot , an actor and a cartoonist . Yet , he chose to pursue paranormal investigator as profession . He was trained to be pilot at Texas . It was series of paranormal event at his house in Florida
that made him study and get certified into paranormal investigations . After returning to India he opened his office in Dwarka and visited over 6000 haunted sites across the globe . He used to receive over 500 calls a day.
Whether it was graveyard in Paharganj where they saw illuminated face of child on tree , the house in south Delhi where image of baby girl used to fleet in and out of bedroom and hall . Or haunted mines of Mussoorie where 50000 mine workers were killed .
He often stated “ black line marks“ theory on body which are signs of revenge of spirits in distress. In June of 2016 , he went to take bath in his apartment in Dwarka after coming back from investigating a case in Janakpuri in west Delhi
He was found dead with black mark on his neck . His father persists with the theory of numerous spirit sightings at home, all having occurred within five feet of his son. He spotted them, others didn’t. I don’t think the case was resolved
Although I didn’t follow up completely. RIP champ ! { Out of respect for family , I am not taking any names . If you do know the name , please don’t mention in the comments }
STORY NUMBER 7 IS UP:
The ghost at the lawyers chamber- Karkardooma is fairly large court complex in East delhi. The court has been ripe with instances of paranormal activities - which is also the reason why after 5 nobody hardly anybody stays back at the court.
CCTV cameras have recorded images of flashes of light moving across the hall. It has also captured images of angry, painful screams followed by throwing away of drawers. Few reporters who covered court beats also confirmed the same
However, a lady lawyer (lets call her Anu) didn't believe a word of it. She was new and spent couple of late nights at her chamber and while she did sense a presence around her for few days- she brushed it off . Anu lived in Niti bagh a very affluent south delhi area
largely occupied by retired judges and lawyers. One day as her daughter came back from tuition late winter evening - she was about to get snack in the kitchen - when she heard movement at the 1st floor of their duplex.
" Mom is that you " ? . " Yessssssss". The voice was not
very audible so she as asked again" Mom?". " Yesssssssss- come up". She seemed angry and impatient at something. Just then the doorbell rang so the daughter went to get the door - " I will be up in a minute, someone at door" .
It was Anu at the door. She had not left her chamber the entire day.
HAUNTED STORIES OF DELHI : STORY 9
The sheermal maker of balimaran : There was a practice in my family that we had been following since the 40s . Atleast 2-3 times a month on Friday , we make mutton and we get sheermal ( safron flavored - mildly sweet
Naan - originated in Iran and introduced to India by Mughal rulers) from bakery in balimaran in old Delhi . Balimaran is also where Galib lived for most of his life . Once I was old enough to travel alone , the baton to get sheermal was passed to me .
One Friday as I reached the bakery , it was closed , which was very unusual as it was peak period . I asked few shopkeepers around and they told me that an incident has happened with the family . Since we had known the family for years I decided to go to
Their house which was quite near . As I entered the house - there was quite a few family members gathered including peers . Kasif ( the owner of the bakery) looked as if he had aged 20 years in 10 days . He looked totally disheveled, distressed , sunken eyes
And in shock . His daughter was lying in the bed , in a coiled, stiffed position . It was an unusual site - few men and women were trying to pull the daughter but she would not move .

They noticed an outsider ( me ) and quickly asked me to leave , which I did
As I was going back , I met one of the workers of the bakery who knew me well and asked what happened . This is what he narrated to me -
Kashifs wife and daughter has gone to Muzaffarnagar to met her wife’s parents . One night robbers broke in and they
Were brutally attacked . They came back home just 3 nights back and since then his wife wakes him up at 1 AM ( the time they were attacked ) and narrates the entire incident to him and also she tightly holds her daughter in her arms . All normal reaction to
Violent incident .

Except , his wife was killed by intruder that night . She has held her daughter since then and refuses to let her go .

HAUNTED STORIES FROM DELHI: NEW STORY NO. 11-
The gate keeper of Mehrauli: Mehrauli arguably is one of the oldest areas in the world with historic proofs showing 1000 years of continuous occupation and has more history per square foot than Rome. However more
on Mehrauli later, first the story. Part of my family has been living in Mehrauli before the start of the century, occupying the old haveli's and therefore ghost stories of mehrauli have been part of our dinner table conversations. This one was told by my grandmother
Around 1930s, my grandmothers side of family lived in haveli behind the Rajon ki baoli . Rajaon ki baoli was a stepwell build during Lodhi era and is one of the most haunted places in Delhi - full of djinns and spirits . One of the haveli in the neighborhood was
occupied by an old man. He had no family , lived alone- never spoke to anyone and never entertained any visitors. Like it used to be small communities - everybody remembered the strange way in which he had come to occupy that Haveli many years ago
The family who early occupied the haveli just vanished overnight and was replaced by old man. The man had not aged one bit in all those years. Also, after he moved in was the time when unusual sightings and happenings started happening in and around Rajon ke baoli - prior
to that there were never any issues.

One day the old man died and the house was occupied by another family. Immediately after moving the family left the house within 2 days . They said it was like living in another world- the temperature inside haveli kept rising and droping
There were shadows moving all around the house , the cat was found dead with its heart pulled out. It was like living in an electrically charged area.
The neighbors were by now scared and tired of everything that had been happening and asked the peer from nizamudin dargah to
look house . Peer went into each and every room but did not find anything unusual until he entered a small room that was away the main area and was tucked away in small basement . This room had temperature that was relatively lower than rest of the house .
The room was completely empty - other than the 2 long mirrors on the opposite side of walls. The mirror were of the same size and were exact opposite to each other - one mirror reflected in the other mirror. And then he knew.

The mirrors were the portal. A portal is an
gateway or bridge or opening to another world and is used by spirits to travel across physical realms. They had decided to make Rajon ki baoli as their hub and used the haveli as portal to move in and out of earth through the mirrors. The old man was the gatekeeper of the portal.
Now all the havelis in the area have been converted into builder floors. So has that haveli. However one flat has always remained empty & never got occupied.
