So many different Coaches Professional Development opportunities have been done virtually over the last 2 months, amazing stuff, I wanted to share my number one professional development takeaway, and it is not Basketball related, it's Jurgen Klopp. A thread below

BEAT OF HIS OWN
- in my reading, Klopp has been asked why he does not wear a suit his response: "I have a suit for weddings, funerals, otherwise this will never be my ideal. ... I don't want to think about what I have to wear, I want to be free"

- motivation
- environment of trust
- emotional connection
- an immense focus on what happens off the field
Klopp call's his players "the boys" as if they are in his "family"

Perhaps Klopp's greatest skill:
He is willing to take risks!
He is truly comfortable in his own skin, and owns it all, and his players revere him for it. See screen shot below how Klopp gave his pre game speech to settle the mood:

What Do Klopp's Players Think:
- Players believe he has made them better because he is critical, but they know he cares
- he won't ask them to do something he wouldn't
- He is very contact driven, he hugs, he high fives, he fist pumps, he is a walking energizer bunny.

Klopp's defining trait: he is unapologetically himself, always, he doesn't turn it on/off, he keeps this "father" idea present in his players mind, they feel this closeness, and not to disappoint "dad". He is the most extraordinary everyday man

Klopp will be the first to acknowledge this works for some, but not all, and the fit it takes to work within his system, it can be tiring, and wear players out. When Klopp took over the Liverpool job, his introductory press conference said it all.
"I am the normal one" Klopp

We go through this coaching journey of wanting the best drills, then wanting the best X's and O's, and then we finally get to how to connect/manage/organize our players, as the last realization, when in reality it should be first - Klopp reminded me of this, more than anyone else

Last thing: Klopp took me from being a not interested in Soccer, to being enthralled by it, he alone did that, and I don’t know him!! Think about what he would be like to play/work with!?
