Dr. Sawin, I am going to respectfully answer this question. Brief thread. https://twitter.com/bethsawin/status/1261299382630191104
The human purpose in the world we need to create is to nurture all of life, to study and to learn ways to manage the global ecosystem so that it provides for our needs and the needs of the entire biosphere.
Our purpose is to bring back the beavers, to provide the necessary resources to them to manage our water, to recharge our aquifers, to halt flash flooding and creek erosion.
Our purpose is to plant flowers for the bees, and to take our share of their production.
Our purpose is to plant perennial food crops at every later, to feed ourselves, our children, and all the wild children with the rich production of life on Earth.
(Above "later" should be "layer.")
Our purpose, our literal design purpose, is to walk the Earth as gardeners, nourishing every plant, every animal, to interoperate as they once did in a productive, stable, balanced system, making more total life every day than the day before.
It is known, it is not disputed, that to walk our Earth heals our bodies and our minds, while to drive rolling on top of it spreading death leaves us fat, unhealthy, unhappy, and destructive.
It is, again not disputed, known that to interact with the natural systems of Earth improves both those systems in their operation, and our own mental health.
This is clearly a demonstration of our purpose.
Our purpose is to turn our eyes to the natural world from which we sprang and on which we depend for air, for water, and for food, and to heal it so that it draws back out the wasted carbon we have spewed ...
Our purpose is to repair the damage we and our parents have done to the biosphere in the understanding that life is carbon, carbon is life, and that only life in all its messy complexity can restore the glorious balance which we have broken.
Our purpose is to slow to our natural pace, to take our natural curiosity, and to become responsible stewards of this, our only planet, to heal it that we, too, along with all of life, may prosper here in comfort and peace.
One man's view.
