After a white woman is attacked in Georgia’s rural Forsyth County, local whites pin the blame on the tiny black population of mostly-poor sharecroppers.
A young black man, Rob Edwards, is lynched on the town square by an angry mob.

Fearing another lynching, Forsyth Co. officials transport the teenaged prisoners to Atlanta so they can be held in the infamous Fulton Tower.

Throughout the fall in 1912, black families in Forsyth Co. are terrorized by masked “night riders” on horseback who harass, terrorize, and dynamite their homes.
These night riders are the revived version of the old night patrols that caught runaway slaves a century before.

Now homeless, more than 1,000 black citizens flee the county. For weeks, wagon-fulls of black refugees pour into neighboring Hall County. In their absence, land & cattle are seized.
