There is alot of misinformation being spread in regards to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. This will be a thread debunking the main pieces of slander covered as “criticism” that are spread and an explanation of other aspects of the story that seem to be ignored.
Poisons VS Muzan- The poisons are an unusual complaint considering how thorough the foreshadowing was and how Shinobu pretty much confirmed new poisons were created. This was 40 chapters in advance once Douma was defeated and 70 chapters in advance it was confirmed Tamayo and ++
Shinobu were working together. Tamayo had a grudge for hundreds of years and was introduced before even Zenitsu and Inosuke. Her goal was clear since introduction as well as the massive grudge against which she further emphasizes when Muzan is crushing her head after leaving his+
cocoon. Considering these it shouldn't be surprising she contributed so much.
Humanizing Medicine- One that for whatever reason is constantly brought up is humanizing medicine. This was introduced as a concept within the first 15 chapters and the requirements were Upper-Moon blood (Which Tanjiro did obtain). Shinobu prepared extra and this was the one++++
used on Tanjiro (A backup incase Nezuko's dosage wasn't enough). Calling this an asspull would be ignoring the fact that the medicine had already existed and it was clear Tamayo and Shinobu were taking massive precautions.
Muzan’s Abilities- Another major complaint seems to be Muzan's abilities which is understandable. The issue with that complaint is that the fight is optimized for a barrage of attacks which makes spine blades and shockwaves perfect. He has multiple other BDA's +
Which is proved by Tanjiro in his "Form" after absorbing muzan’s powers but none would be as ideal as those when being constantly barraged by multiple high-class fighters. This also allowed for great choreography in the fight due to being able to go 10v1 (imagine ufotable 👀)
Muzan's character as a whole was used as a scapegoat for whatever reason and requires a whole other thread for itself. Heres a short analysis by @SpeedyOMG On Muzans character.
"Baby Muzan Bad"- I already posted an essay that explain’s Muzan’s character but for the sake of compiling ill elaborate a little. Muzan is a prideless coward. He tossed away everything and in a last-ditch effort to save himself without any shame. ++
He created a hideous husk to defend his organs and escape for the simple reason of fear of death (his primary driving factor). This husk also contributed to Muzan's development because within this husk he passed on everything to Tanjiro and conceded to Ubuyashiki's beliefs.
The symbolism in this scene with Muzan showing how pathetic he truly is and how far he's willing to go was on point. A perfect contrast was Kokushibo. He was disgusted with himself once he transformed and gained immortality on par with Muzan to the point where he'd rather die.
Flashbacks- Something to keep in mind is Tanjiro's flashbacks never gave him powerups. The main argument against this is "Hinokami Kagura vs Rui". This was Tanjiro's life flashing before his eyes and during this set of event's he remembered his dad's Kagura dance.
Tanjiro already knew how to do he just didn't know its purpose until this). The kagura dance was something that is made clear passes on the Breath of the Sun and is passed on through the Kamado bloodline generation to generation.
For this to be an asspull would be to ignoring the fact that this is a major plot point being introduced into the story. This in no way, however, means Tanjiro powered up from the concept of Inherited memories (further elaborated in next post)
Inherited memories- Inherited memories as a whole are a concept in the world of Demon Slayer the same way "Surpassing your limits!" Is in Black clover (Dark dimension slash for example). These aren't inherently negatives and shouldn't be treated as such.
Repetitive Arcs- Simplifying a arc to its bare bones structure to call it repetitive can be done with many manga. Take One Piece with Dressrosa and Alabasta for example. 2 different arcs with similar basis. Are these bad arcs due to their similarities? +++
Clearly not and to many they’re received very well. Its made very clear that Upper Moons are far superior to Hashira as even Daki (weakest upper moon by far) has killed 6 Hashira in her lifetime.
The main cast teaming up with Hashira when facing the main enemy can be compared to Pro Hero’s assisting in MHA. Clearly MHA isn’t repetitive but if you focus in on a single aspect thats very nitpicked and amplify it the argument can be made.
If you’ve read this far thank you for reading the thread and I hope you’ve learned about a few aspects of Demon Slayer that have had many misconceptions around them ✌️😁
