Conservatives complain about "liberal media", but they have tens of thousands of women who write copy well, and want to talk to people and would work for very modest pay "just to help out". They could sit in at all the council meetings and board meetings at 2pm on a Weds.
And if someone is like WHAT ABOUT THE BOYZ, well, there are homeschool teen boys knocking around who could also be doing reporting too. But the reality is local journalism will never be decent-paying, so let people who can afford (for real) modest pay do it.
"Nonpartisan" groups are funding "I'll pay you 40k/yr to cover progressive/minorities locally" initiatives. The right needs to pony up similarly, but for plain-jane local reporting on city/county/neighborhood/school issues.
