Been asked my opinion on anon accounts so here goes.

1. Anyone on SM is using their own time (a resource) to do something for Defence.

2. Anon accounts often do this with no recognition or actively seeking it and are busy people (often more junior).

3. Mistakes. Nobody is perfect or has a perfect SM presence. That is *exactly* why people follow - because it’s real, human, credible and authentic.

4. Retribution. There is a perception (therefore real) of sanctions and black marking for mistakes with career implications.

5. V&S. What has evaporated recently is respect for others, a sense of proportion and perspective. We’ve created a ‘them and us’ in a way that is alien to me in the Army.

V&S is subjective so there will be different opinions/perspectives/viewpoints

Mentor in not punish out.
Standards. Often the overlooked area. What we do for one we must do for all.

No distinction between some senior soldier accounts and more junior ones.

We should all keep a sense of perspective and proportion when dealing with perceived slights.
Avoid generalisations.
“Once it’s there it’s there forever”
There’s an app for that.
“That’s in the public domain”
Sure but honestly less than a football crowd, less than an online CAL conference have seen it.
“The press twist this into an angle” well maybe but probably not.
A healthy and secure organisation can laugh at itself, critique and brush off minor frustrations or engages with all of those to develop - or has that perspective to say - it’s just people letting off steam.

Proportion is seeing the good and the bad and finding a balance.
And there does have to be a balance.

I’ve been accused of “threatening the chain of command”. Consider the absurdity of that statement and what it means for my family, career, reputation and MH. It’s irrational.

Respect others, tolerance, secure not insecure and perspective.
P.S. I’d add and acknowledge I do get it wrong and sometimes fail to think before I tweet, underestimate my level of ‘inside’ knowledge or let frustration get the better of me.

Usually a gentle reminder serves to remedy that rather than something threatening or personal.
