Stay with me here for a minute gang.. this could go on for a few tweets. The conversation needs to be shifted away from
"oh, you guys just want to get wasted"
to
"Hemp and Cannabis have a lot of uses and applications past human ingestion"

An acre of Hemp will absorb 4x the amount of C02 as an acre of trees, using 1/2 the water, no pesticides or fertilizers and maturing in only 4 months. Every part of the plant can be used for biofuel, building materials, textiles, composites and feedstock

An acre of pine will take around 20 years to mature, whereas the same acre of hemp will produce 2-3 harvestable crops per year. Planting an area about the size of Texas worldwide could pull 420 gigatons of C02 from the air, EVERY YEAR.

One hectare of hemp can produce:

250 litres of hemp seed oil, used for everything from paint to food-grade cooking oil โ€“ high-quality hemp seed oil retails for up to NZD$75 per litre.
One metric tonne of hemp seed, a nutritious cereal that is rich in protein and omega 3 fatty acids โ€“ hulled hemp seed retails for up to NZD$70 per kilogram. Three metric tonnes of hemp fibre, valuable for the manufacture of rope and textiles โ€“ retails for around NZD$2 per KG
Hemp seed is an excellent source of vegetarian protein. They contain more than 30% protein, as well as many other essential nutrients. Hemp seeds are one of the few plants that are complete protein sources, meaning they contain all the essential aminos that your body can't make.
A 1-ounce (28-gram) serving of hemp seeds contains:
Calories: 155
Fiber: 1.1 grams
Protein: 8.8 grams
Monounsaturated fat: 0.6 grams
Polyunsaturated fat: 10.7 grams
Magnesium: 45% of the RDI
Thiamine (vitamin B1): 31% of the RDI
Zinc: 21% of the RDI
The ratio of omega-6:omega-3 fats in hemp seed oil is roughly 3:1. Hemp seeds also contain gamma-linolenic acid, an important anti-inflammatory fatty acid.
Hemp seed oil may have a beneficial effect on heart health by increasing the amount of omega-3 in the blood
The anti-inflammatory action of the omega-3 fatty acids may also help improve symptoms of eczema.
One study found people with eczema experienced less skin dryness and itchiness after taking hemp seed oil supplements for 20 weeks. They also used skin medication less, on average
Hemp will also clean the soil of contaminants such as heavy metals from mining tails, raw sewage or agricultural runoff (Nitrates from animal waste or fertilizers) Hemp's deep root system will also break up problem soils, and can grow in nearly any climate or soil system.
Once harvested, Hemp plants used in phytoremediation can be sent directly into the industrial stream for use in building materials, composites or absorption, or refined to recover the various metals or compounds they were planted to deal with.
Phytoremediation can be used to remove radioactive elements from soil and water. It can also be used to clean up metals, pesticides, solvents, explosives, crude oil, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, and toxins leaching from landfills. It has been used with great effect at Chernobyl
Plants break down or degrade organic pollutants and stabilize metal contaminants by acting as filters or traps. Field trials are being conducted to improve the phytoextraction of lead, uranium, cesium-137, and strontium-90 from soils and water.
This *may* involve some level of genetic modification involving genes from sunflowers, flax, maize, mustards and/or bamboo. The technology is mature enough to develop strains of industrial hemp specifically targeted to a contaminant.
Among the most absorbent materials known, Hemp core fibre, in whole or powdered form can be used to absorb oil and chemical spills on land or in marine environments.
and lastly, Hemp is profitable. Farmers can make around $250 to $300 per acre in profit if they grow hemp for grain. If they grow hemp for fiber, they can make around $480 per acre. If a farmer grows hemp specifically for CBD extraction, they can make $2500 per acre or more.
We can stop or slow the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere with hemp. We can feed the world with hemp. We can change manufacturing, building and clean up the mess made by the industrial revolution using hemp. All it takes is political will.
