When we women make an observation on this here lovely platform, and when we might be making an observation about men, 10/10 times, we’ll have not one, but a few of you, jump in to tell us, actually, it’s #NOTALLMEN.
If we say “I’m astounded by men tearing down women”, we haven’t said “I’m astounded that all the men tear women down.” IF we had, please do jump in with #notallmen. But 99% of the time, we’ve just said the word "men"...
When you talk about us… for example your kid asks you who has babies? Do you say “Some women.” Or are you more likely to say “Women.”? Be honest. It’s the latter. And do you notice us charging to tell you “NOT ALL WOMEN HAVE BABIES.” No. We just don’t do that. We just, get on.
But you guys can’t stop it. It’s exhausting and infuriating, and it insults our intelligence. I’ll tell you for why:
Exhausting because it’s constant. It really is. Believe us when we say that we’ve heard it before, a hundred times. Maybe thousands. I'm not exaggerating.
Infuriating because it’s 2020 and you should be aware of the " #notallmen" phenomenon from our point of view by now. It's been happening online to us for years, so if you've not picked up on it open your eyes, see past you nose.
And it insults our intelligence because by telling us “not all men are like this”, you implying we’re dim enough to think one man’s actions would be the same for every man on Planet Earth. We don’t. We know that people are different. We’re quite bright really, us women!

And when we're telling you something serious or horrific that happened to us, when we're sharing our lived experiences, and all you can do is correct us, it is also demoralising, and makes YOU look a bit of a prick. So just...don't be a prick!
So there we go. Unless we literally say the words "all men", rule of thumb is simply do not come in with "NOT ALL MEN". We know. We know that it is not every man in the world. Please stop doing this. We're TIRED. Thank you for listening.
