Retweeting this again because I think it’s important that us Japanese learners learn the appropriate words to use (and the same applies for Japanese learners of English). Do you know how to say “lesbian” in Japanese? How would you find that out? https://twitter.com/sheepchase/status/1234993090814824448
On “レズ” or “レズビアン” in Japanese (cc @nagaijin)
By the way I’ve seen some dictionaries give “ホモ” as a definition for “gay”, without stating that it’s offensive. Don’t use this.
(Obviously *some* gay people use it themselves but that doesn’t mean it’s for general use).
Better to use “ゲイ” or “同性愛者”.

Bisexual is バイセクシュアル or 両性愛者.
I actually don’t know offensive terms for this in Japanese...

Can anyone else inform us about currently appropriate Japanese for ‘Transgender’, ‘nonbinary’ and ‘Queer’? Thanks! #learningjapanese

@akokitamura I meant to tag you in this thread because some of your students might be interested. You can’t always trust a dictionary to be ‘correct’, which is another reason to have a teacher!
It seems “deadnaming” in Japanese is デッドネーミング.
