During the independence war (from Spain and the wars w/ Uruguay/Paraguay, Argentina sent it’s black slaves to the forefront to die as canon fodder on the condition that they would potentially be freed. The mortality rate amongst freed blacks was so high,
that they had a statistically higher chance of survival as enslaved people. When black Argentines finally did attain freedom,due to severe racial discrimination,they were barred from employment beyond menial labor & the majority were left destitute in poverty; begging to survive.
Being a destitute community with no financial mobilization, when plagues like yellow fever and cholera struck the country, they were disproportionately effected due to lack of proper sanitation and healthcare as compared to the elite whites.
