This thread will explain the real reasons that the Spanish Empire fell. It will mention multiple matters that together caused the collapse. It will be long and might take me more than a day to post so if you see a thread with 6 or 14 tweets know that it is still not finished.
Upon Henry VIII's rejection of his Spanish Queen Catherine & Roman Catholicism Spain came into a struggle with Protestant England that lasted centuries and involved many wars. During this period even in peacetime England employed pirates to steal Spain's wealth in the high seas.
Many rightly claim that Spain's decline began after losing the War of Spanish succession during which England instigated Europe to stop Spain from uniting with France.Spain could had also united with the Habsburg Holy Roman Empire. They did neither & ended up with a Bourbon King
Philip V became the first Bourbon King of Spain. His family was of questionable faith as he descends from Henry IV who was Protestant,Philip's grandfather the "Sun King" had sided with Protestants & even Ottomans against Catholic Spain. The Pope had supported the Hapsburg claim.
Ferdinand VI succeeded Philip as King.During his reign he traded 2 regions in Brazil to Portugal in exchange for Sacramento in modern Uruguay. One of these regions had 7 Jesuit missions. The indians in the missions rebelled against their expulsion creating crisis with the Jesuits
Freemasonry had existed long before 1717 and had been organized by the Knights Templars who had been corrupted by Jewish mysticism & had escaped the suppression of the order & continued to exist in secret.Masonry was spread throughout Europe as a tool of English intelligence.
Masonry was injected into Spain through lodges in Gibraltar which England had captured during the war of Spanish succession.Ferdinand VI banned Masonry but Charles III who succeeded him was an adherent of the Enlightenment & appointed the Grandmaster of Spain his Prime minister.
Charles III who is called "the Enlightened" had quarreled with Pope Clement XII while he was ruler of Naples before he became King of Spain.A believer in the Enlightenment Charles surrounded himself with Masons at Royal court such as Count of Aranda,Count of Campomanes and others
The Marquis of Esquilache was an enlightened Neapolitan reformer Charles III brought to Spain. His desire to change Spanish apparel sparked riots which forced the King to end his reforms.Esquilache & other Masons in Charles's govt blamed the riot as a Jesuit plot against the King
Encouraged by his Masonic Ministers Aranda & Campomanes in 1767 Charles exiled the Jesuits who had been the main opponents of Masonry. To Charles they had rebelled in Brazil, rioted in Spain & condemned his Masonic friends. Jesuits in the Spanish Empire were all forcefully exiled.
From 1767 until 1814 for 47 years there were no Jesuits in the Spanish Empire. There were no Jesuit educating the nobility or the poor & more importantly there were no Jesuits infiltrating & gaining information on the Masonic lodges. The Spanish Inquisition became non existent
Charles IV who was said to be simple minded was more interested in hunting than politics left the govt in the hands of Masonic ministers like Manuel Godoy.Godoy made an alliance with Napoleon who promised him southern Portugal.Spain & France joined forces & invaded Portugal
Nobles who supported the Church lost influence at court which was being dominated by Masons who either supported Napoleon(Afrancesados) & those who supported England.Napoleon jailed both Charles IV & his son Ferdinand then made his brother Joseph both King & Grand Master of Spain
Spanish towns set up juntas & rebelled against Napoleon. The Spanish were the first to defeat one of Napoleon's armies at the Battle of Bailen. Spain lost a half a million people fighting while Wellington made sporadic incursions into Spain mostly to retreat back into Portugal
While Spain was occupied by Napoleon local juntas were set up in Spanish America.England & the United States encouraged Masons such as Bolivar,San Martin,Hidalgo & others to revolt against Spain igniting the Spanish wars of independence.British Legions were sent to support rebels
After Napoleon's defeat Ferdinand VII welcomed the Jesuits back into Spain & banned Masonry. Masons in an army about to be sent to fight the rebels in America lead by Rafael del Riego mutinied & made Ferdinand their prisoner & established Masonic rule over Spain Trienio Liberal
A war ravaged Spain could not defeat the rebellions in Spanish America as not only were the rebels Masons but Spain's army was rife with Masons as well.Masonic Commanders on both sides rigged battles as in the Battle of Ayacucho(Ayacucho betrayal)which secured Peru's independence
In 1823 the Bourbon Louis XVIII who was restored as a king of France sent an army of "100,000 sons of St Louis" to Spain who overthrew the Masonic Trienio Liberal government & restored Ferdinand VII as a absolute King of Spain. Many of the Liberal Masonic leaders fled to England.
In the "Ominous decade" that followed Ferdinand's restoration Riego was hanged & some liberal Masons exiled but later Ferdinand & his(Ferdinadistas) continued to work with masons.Ultra-royalists(Apostolicos) who wanted liberalism abolished revolted but lost War of the Agraviados
Originally Ferdinand refused to pay back the loans taken during the illegitimate Masonic Trienio Liberal gvt who put Spain into dept to the Rothschild bank. Later on to placate them he ordered his Pm & Mason Cea Bermudez to work with the Rothschilds who encouraged liberalization
Having no male heirs Ferdinand abolished Salic law so his daughter Isabella could succeed him. After his death Isabella's regent allied with the masons(Isabelinos),Britain,France & Portugal against Ferdinand's brother Carlos & Carlistas who fought 3 Carlist wars valiantly but lost
