theres a chance that this book is completely biased (which seems unlikely as this author is exceptionally good at striking a balance between the good and the bad, praises george but not in a way that seems contrived or overly sycophantic, and draws attention to the negatives
without seeming defamatory, instead opting to portray him as close to how — one would assume — he was) but theres also a big chance that its not. do i think that john and paul treated him unfairly? yes. do i think they did it intentionally/w the aim of hurting him? absolutely not
was he a prisoner in the band, held there against his will, completely and utterly helpless? not at all. the problem wasn't so much george wanting "in" on the lennon-mccartney partnership, which simply wasnt meant to be because of th strength and tightness of their bond, the
closeness with which their souls were tied to one another meant that bringing in another person (george) wasnt ever in the cards and on some level im sure he knew that. nor did it seem to be something that was present in the early days, when he wasnt interested in songwriting
and left it to lennon-mccartney. the problem was when he started writing, they didnt seem terribly interested in his work and paired w the fact that he was churning out songs that werent up to par, and them already having had years of songwriting under their belts, its no wonder
they didnt have much patience. he was someone who looked up to lennon-mccartney a lot, craved their validation, but because he wasnt getting it, things started festering. its just really unfortunate for him because he turned out to be a wonderful songwriter, penning some of the
beatles' most iconic songs to date, but it all happened at the wrong time. not to forget that even though he did feel wronged, and as much as he said in later life how much he disliked being in the group as time went on, he couldve left way before they broke up, iirc he started
feeling doubtful right after their '66 tour, but he didnt, because despite everything, deep down, in the same way he loved them, they loved him too. but like lots of things in life, some things just werent meant to be
oh also i think he really yearned for a partnership like the one paul and john had, them being two halves of a whole, and understanding eachother better than they understood themselves but wasnt able to get it in the band because ringo wasnt too into songwriting and john and paul
were, ofc, already together
