I don't know if you can make out the type here, but they're saying to this woman that she is fully qualified for a position at a college and would have done a superior job. However, they're not going to offer her the role. Why? (1 of 2)
(2 of 2) Because they 'simply did not have the nerve to add another woman to the faculty and thus bring the departmental balance to half female and half male.' We've seen before that under-representation of women was seen as fair, & equal representation waaay over the top. (1973)
Talented young footballer Debbie Anderson denied a place on the team because 'soccer is for the development of boys only', and anyway insurance companies don't cover girls. (1973)
This woman, along with many others, was denied the chance to enter the printing trade because she was female. #ThankABoomer that companies can't legally exclude women any more purely on the basis of their sex.
Say thank you to a boomer if your period pain is recognised as a real medical condition.
In 1973, a man had the right to force his wife to have children.
Did you know that, in the 70s, women were often pressured into sterilisation by NHS staff?
A reminder that in the 1970s, universities could ask girls to get higher grades than boys for exactly the same course.

If you're a young woman who's accessed higher education, #ThankABoomer you got a fair chance at it.
#ThankABoomer that you can't be sacked for not wearing a bra at work.
Thank you to sportswomen like Vivien Saunders who fought against sexism, and then fought again when her case was thrown out. (1977)
Here's the Magic Circle again, this time banning an adult woman from joining, even though she's won an international prize. (1977)
So thank you Morine Vickers for taking them to court.
Thank you to Ann Williams who became the first women to take part in a national ploughing competition. Yes, it's niche, but nevertheless she was striking into new territory.
Thank you to all the boomers who campaigned against this (1977) and against the many other 'jokey' slogans and cartoons making light of rape.
Many many women replied to me last week to say they'd been instrumental in getting their schools/workplaces to allow females to wear trousers.

If you're a young woman who's never even had to think 'Am I allowed?' then #ThankABoomer
Thank you to Penny Ballcock, who tried to get into another profession where women had previously been barred. I hope she took her case to appeal and won.
If you can't nowadays be sacked for 'being a distraction to your male colleagues', #ThankABoomer.
Well done to young Theresa Bennett, fighting against the sexism of the Football Association and taking her case all the way to the Equal Opportunities Commission. I hope she won her case, although I suspect her chances were thin. (1978)
That's the end of this penultimate batch. I'll tweet the remainder on Sunday.
Here comes the end of the #ThankABoomer thread. #VintageMagTweets Let's start with the Jockey Club, and a thank you to the women who campaigned to be allowed into this organisation.
Thank you to Sheila Collins who took her case to court and so lessened the number of other employers who thought blatant discrimination against women was OK.
If you work in the field of Law and are confident that a male head of chambers would never dismiss you in this way, #ThankABoomer.
Are you a female medic who trained within the last thirty years? #ThankABoomer your university didn't limit the intake of female students to 15-20%.
Because that was absolutely the case in the early 70s.
Are you a young person who expects to get free contraception from the doctor's or FP clinic? You can #ThankABoomer for that too.
These 1970s women campaigned and failed, but their efforts meant in the end that women who came after them *could* enter the French Academy, train as a pilot, join the stock exchange.
If you've been employed as a female GP, thank the women who had to fight against this kind of rubbish.
If you feel you have some recourse should male colleagues call you horrible, bullying, sexist names, #ThankABoomer.
Girls nowadays getting PROPER SUPPORT when writing to an agony aunt about being sexually abused, that's down to bitter and painful campaigning by older women.
I'll just pause there and talk about that one. I don't know what the magazine is or the date, I'm afraid - I was careless about curating - but just LOOK at what the agony aunt says there.
This girl is being touched by her uncle whenever she visits her grandparents and she's terrified. Oh, says the agony aunt, you can't stop going. You're not allowed to put yourself out of danger. But the responsibility here lies with you, and you have to sort out this adult male.
It's unbelievable. And there were lots of replies like this to abused girls growing up in the 70s and early 80s.
If, as a woman, you need to see a female GP and you can get to see one, #ThankABoomer because it certainly wasn't the case in the 70s and 80s.
I presume women went on to campaign for full membership?
And lastly, this is what boomers did to help women victims of domestic violence. Before these new guidelines, crimes and complaints were not properly recorded. There weren't enough female police surgeons to examine the women, & the conditions under which women were interviewed...
...were often poor. Violent attacks in the home were not considered as serious as attacks on the street. Women were not questioned separately from their attackers, were usually interviewed by men, and it was pot luck whether you got given the contact details for advice/refuge.
We take those as standard today, and rightly so, But in the 70s and early 80s, that was not the case.
I've been humbled by the women who've contributed to this thread by tweeting their own experience of campaigning. You are amazing. We owe you such a debt.
I'm going to end this very long thread (believe me, it could have been twenty times longer!) with one of my favourite quotations. #ThankABoomer
