Someone on facebook said "Every ska band that formed after the 90s sucks" So I made a long thread of incredible bands that formed in the last 15 years, and a huge chunk (almost all if im not mistaken) of them released music in the last 5 years. Gonna copy the thread here!
it's honestly such a good mini-review thread i did on about 15 bands it needs to see the light of day and represented beyond a subthread on facebook
Self plug - We are the union was my all time favorite band before I joined, they always breathed new life to both the musical and especially lyrical content of the genre (and i think with self care, we continued to achieve that)
Los Skagaleros just formed a few years ago, has one EP right now, super dope Latinx band from south south texas right off the border of mexico! incredible people, incredible musicians, incredible songwriting!
omnigone! Previous guitarist of Link 80 (Adam Davis) Started this dope Ska-Punk/Hardcore Punk project, and just dropped their debut last year!

speaking of debut records, catbite debuted with their first self titled LP, and they're one of the fresh breaths of air, mixing this sweet rocksteady and 2-tone with the energy of punk and rock n roll, its SO TIGHT
@KillLincoln, the HEROES ska needs and deserves right now. Super fast paced ska punk with ripping horns. Best live ska set you'll probably ever see. Mike has been doing great work with this band AND with his label Bad Time Records
getting a little heavier in the vein of skacore, the Best Of The Worst has some of the most diverse and interesting songwriting ive seen in a ska punk band. they really maximize the many ways to incorporate heavier genres into ska.
@greymattermi bringing a breath of fresh air into ska. They are very chaotically into the vein of the "core" side of ska core, but still have these up beat energetic vibes mixed with the darker melodic sound of ska core. Best band people
ABRASKADABRA From BRAZIL is killing it! Super upbeat, super fun. Honestly their music just sounds like a really fun party in the best way!
Oreskaband! They've really taken all the sounds of the 2-tone era and mixed it with this j-pop songwriting to create some of the most upbeat ska ive heard without it sounding corny! Incredible musicianship, too!
Older than 2002, but this band is an exception, the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra puts a breath of fresh air with every release in the genre, while also nailing every sound they to for from tradtional ska to ska punk. the perfect ska band.
Flying Raccoon Suit needs to be mentioned because they have this super interesting indie ska sound ive never heard before. clean horns, beautiful guitar tone, incredible singing! Waiting on a full length of this indie ska vibe!!!
our hero mike park's project (the bruce lee band) is old, but the current line up is honestly a new era because since jeff rosenstock has become the backing band, it has been one of the best third wave ska bands ever (imo, the best third wave ska band)
the skints! mixing punk rock with this trad ska/rocksteady/reggae vibe! as well as mixing lots of other styles like dancehall, dub, chiptune, god they're just pushing the boundaries and its incredible
S.M.N. Came to america last year and blew my mind at fest. Super fast skate punk that makes me wanna move. KILLING IT amongst all the other japanese ska bands
sian man records first ska band in over a decade, the abruptors really dropped this dope traditional ska-inspired ska record with the catchiest hooks! 10/10 makes me dance every time
ts 2009 and breakdowns in pop punk is cool! Now lets add horns on top of it! Easycore ska punk? Sounds like pizza and FUN! Sorry Sweetheart out of denver is scratching this itch for a very specific type of ska punk I never get!!
MATAMOSKA! Cant forget one of the many many many many MANY LA ska bands. The heavy Latinx scene has their share of influences that has shaped this very specific LA SKACORE Sound that in its own deserves its own topic of discussion!
Thirsty guys! Off Bad time records, and featuring members of the best of the worst, this band is a super jeff rosenstock/BTMI-like band who formed and dropped their first LP last year! 2019 was a dope year for ska!!!
GONNA ADD TO THE THREAD I'VE FOUND SOME DOPE SKA SINCE THEN! Starting with @Poindexter_Ska who recently put out their first EP! Some of their members play in @greymattermi and it's reminds me a lot of the late 2000s community records ska im so here for it
the @MelbSkaOrchestr honestly is so dope, i believe they started trying to beat the world record of worlds largest band and became this huge ensemble playing ska jazz, really true to the roots of the genre. This song is the actual definition of feel good
@CMMalcolmBand is from the UK (I'm pretty sure) and is just extremely solid Ska-Punk. Can't really pin a band who has their sound, which I love. Their horn parts are extremely tight and catchy, they've been on the rise over the last few years!!!
@Gruberites is a dope ska punk band i've kinda notice pop up over the last few years too. Their stuff is pretty dynamic! Fast songs, slow songs, mixes of lots of different influences, all bangers!
@THEDELIRIANS are from california, if im not mistaken and really have a solid traditional ska/rocksteady sound. Definitely lots of jazz influence, and from what i can tell, they all seem like really awesome people! been listening to them a bunch lately
THE HOMIES FROM SOUTH FLORIDA, @STOPresses was one of the first local ska bands i saw when i was 15, and they were my introduction to rocksteady! Their stuff groves so hard, they went on a little hiatus, but glad they're back!
Realized I never added HEY-SMITH to this thread. This band is a powerhouse from japan, more skate-punk than ska, but their horns rip and this band reminds you of the energy ska-punk can carry AND THEN SOME. Dropped an extremely tight record recently!
adding my project JER to this thread because I write bangers and this project is really cool, I can’t wait to show y’all what’s in store but until then, adding it into the mix!
Gonna add @BAD_OPERATION_ super dope band bringing a fresh new sound to the 2-tone ska vibe. #NewTone baybeeee
gonna add Girls Go Ska to this list! Killin this more trad sounding ska from Mexico City!
tape girl! She records very BTMI-like music all on her laptop, it slaps
ska-jazz and rocksteady band who’s been crushing it recently, much more smoother sound, but hype nontheless
