I think there’s three different textures, depending on what it is. Loosely defined as tentacle, blood and eye
Tentacle has a surface tension you will not break and is thus essentially solid. They’re slick and tacky like drying paint or glue. Sometimes they’ll drip and break off globs and that behaves like blood, see next
Blood is essentially what he’s made of: viscous slime that will flow and pool but not always in the direction you hope. It’s sticky and caustic. Sometimes it’s thin and liquid and sometimes thick and globby. It will hurt you. It wants to hurt you.
Eye is an automatic response to wounds. It comes out of his lingering eye wound. It’s thin and floaty, like smoke, but will stick and burn if you touch it. It’s a biological defense and he has little control over it, this is why he often wears the eyepatch when in humanoid forms
