நரை கூடிக் கிழப்பருவ மெய்தி-
கொடுங் கூற்றுக் கிரையெனப்பின் மாயும்-பல வேடிக்கை மனிதரைப் போலே-நான் வீழ்வே னென்று நினைத்தாயோ?

Get old and withering
Become a victim of terrible accusations
Did you think I would die at the end;
Like this pathetic human?

அக்கினிக் குஞ்சொன்று கண்டேன் - அதை அங்கொரு காட்டிலோர் பொந்திடை வைத்தேன் -
வெந்து தணிந்தது காடு

I found a small flame
and I placed it in the hole in a tree.
The whole forest burned and turned into ashes.

சின்னக் குமிழிகளில் நின்முகங் கண்டேன்;
பிரித்துப் பிரிந்துநிதம் மேகம் அளந்தே,
பெற்றதுன் முகமன்றிப் பிறிதொன் றில்லை

In the tiny bubbles of water, I see your face
In the process of studying clouds in details,
All I realised was your beautiful face and nothing else.

ஜாதி மதங்களைப் பாரோம் - உயர்
ஜன்மம்இத் தேசத்தில் எய்தின ராயின்
வேதிய ராயினும் ஒன்றே - அன்றி
வேறு குலத்தின ராயினும் ஒன்றே!

No more talk of caste and creed
No more talk of birth and breed;
Who first drew breath in this our land,
Brahmin or other caste, with us he will stand.

மனதி லுறுதி வேண்டும்;
வாக்கினி லேயினிமை வேண்டும்;
நினைவு நல்லது வேண்டும்,
கனவு மெய்ப்பட வேண்டும்,
கைவசமாவது விரைவில் வேண்டும்.

Let the mind be firm;
Let the speech be sweet;
Let the thoughts be noble,
Let all dreams come true,
And quickly too.

சுட்டும்விழிச் சுடர்தான்,- கண்ணம்மா!
சூரிய சந்திரரோ?
வட்டக் கரியவிழி,- கண்ணம்மா!
வானக் கருமைகொல்லோ?

Thy glowing eyes - Kannamma
Are they the sun and the moon?
Thy black eyeballs - Kannamma
Is that the dark hue of the sky?

கண்கள் உறங்கவொரு காரணமுண்டோ,
கண்ணனை இன்றிரவு காண்பதன்முன்னே?
பெண்களெல் லோருமவர் வீடுசென்றிட்டார்;
பிரிய மிகுந்தகண்ணன் காத்திருக்கின்றான்;

Is there any reason to sleep?
before seeing Kannan tonight?
All the girls have returned home
But beloved Kannan is waiting.

கன்னத்தில் முத்தமிட்டால் - உள்ளந்தான்
கள்வெறி கொள்ளுதடீ
உன்னை தழுவிடிலோ - கண்ணம்மா
உன்மத்த மாகுதடீ.

When I kiss your cheeks,
my inner self feels emotionally high (same as that from drinking alcohol) with joy
When I hug you - Oh Kannama,
I feel elated

இனியொரு விதி செய்வோம் - அதை
எந்த நாளும் காப்போம்!

Let us make a new fate (order)
Let's save (follow) the fate (order)!

நிலத்தில் யார்க்கும் அஞ்சாத நெறிகளும்
திமிர்ந்த ஞானச் செருக்கும் இருப்பதால்
செம்மை மாதர் திறம்புவது இல்லையாம்.

She is a fearless possessor of integrity,
She is a proud possessor of wisdom born out of conviction
The resolute woman does not falter or feel inferior.

ஓய்வு மொழிதலும் இல்லாமல்- அவன்
உறவை நினைத்திருக்கும் உள்ளம்
நேசம் மறக்கவில்லை நெஞ்சம் -எனில் நினைவு முகம் மறக்கலாமோ?

Without any interval -my heart
will be thinking about my relationship with him
My heart did not forget his affection-
But is it fair to forget his memorable face?

உயிர்த்தீயினி லேவளர் சோதியே - என்றன் சிந்தனையே, என்றன் சித்தமே! - இந்தக் காற்று வெளியிடைக் கண்ணம்மா.

You're the light lit by the fire of my soul
You're my thought, my purpose in life.
In this breezy expanse Kannama.

பொன்னை உயர்வைப் புகழை
விரும்பிடும் என்னைக்
கவலைகள் தின்னத் தகாதென்று
நின்னைச் சரணடைந்தேன்- கண்ணம்மா!

I desire gold, position, and fame.
But invariably delusion accompanies such desire.
I want relief from that delusion.
Hence I surrender unto you, Kannama!
