"I wanna try to be a traditional artist but Idk what medium to use / is for me"
thread, trying to put my fine arts degree to some use
"I like pale colors and draw slow" you have the patience of a saint and like layering colors, go for

watercolor

cheap brands that are good for beginners: prang, faber castel, pebeo, arteza , marie's, a bit more expensive: sakura.
the appropriate brush to use is a "sable brush"
touch the brush, it should be teardrop shaped and feel like hair
if you plan to draw skies, a makeup brush is appropriate for blending watercolor
"bro, fuck lineart, this paint better dry fast, but also will let me layer 100 times and will reactivate when I wet it again!"

gouache

cheap and good brands: DaVinci, Himi Miya for popping colors (bit pricier), Marie's, pentel, pebeo, reeves
gouache

pros: it's easy to control. You can layer to your heart's desire. it's water solluble too, and you can control the opacity

cons: a lot of brands colors are kinda ugly tbh, and you use so much for just 1 painting. it's also easy to accidentally reactivate old layers
"I like watercolor but I hate the mess that comes with it, and I want more control"

markers

look for ones with brush nibs
good cheap brands: ohuhu, zig, and touchnew
pros: beautiful colors, so much easier to use

cons: layering makes the paper pill up no matter what; also it's so very expensive
"I really like opaque colors but I dont want to paint"

acrylic paint markers

brands: pilot juice, posca
pros: beautiful colors!! so opaque!! it's so fun!! layering is so funnnnn!!

cons: hard to detail unless you go the mixed media way and incorporate gel pens in
"I want textured work that's easy to control and not as messy as paints"

color pencil
pros: the joy you feel when you receive a set of color pencils is unparallaled. Colors are gorgeous, the lead is soft, you wont have to worry about mixing colors, textures you get is delightful, almost asmr

cons: that price tag baby!! especially if u want a lot of pencils
