The recent death of White Helmets founder James Le Mesurier in Turkey, and an unfolding cover-up at the OPCW, has shed new light on the group's shadowy role in the Syria proxy war. @MaxBlumenthal joins @PushbackShow:
We deleted that video to remove graphic footage. New version:
The late James Le Mesurier - who, before founding White Helmets, was a UK spook; served as jailer of Palestinian political prisoners; & "adviser" in US Baghdad embassy - had a salary of 24,000 euros per month. Yet he complained to Western donors he & other execs were underpaid.
When $50,000 in donor money went missing, Le Mesurier told European gov't auditors that it was put away as contingency "for any future evacuation missions." He even provided receipts. But whoops: the auditor later discovered the receipts were forged -- at Le Mesurier's behest.
The White Savior Jailer needed the money: he had three houses, including an Ottoman villa on a Turkish island. I'm sure he thought a lot about suffering Syrians from there.
The auditor eventually figured out what happened to that missing $50,000: it was "a personal bonus for Le Mesurier" taken out of money that "was in fact intended for the rescue workers in Syria who are risking their lives there for 150 dollars a month."
