"How Pragya Thakur and Lt Col Purohit carried out the Malegaon bomb blast in 2008"

On 29 Sept near 2008, a bomb explosion took place in the crowded Chowk of Malegaon, killing six persons and injuring more than 100.

But the perpetrators of the blast didn't know that, unlike in previous blast cases, the investigation wasn't going to be done by commands

of Sang Parivar in the IB. This time the investigation team was headed by an honest, God fearing and a thorough professional officer, ATS Chief Maharashtra, Hemant Karkare.

Karkare reached the blast site and found to be caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) fitted on LML Freedom motorcycle bearing number MH 15-4572. But the terrorists had cannibalised some of its parts from other vehicles.

With the help of dealer's record and of forensic experts the police could reach one Sadhvi Pragyasingh Chandrapratapsingh Thakur (38) who originally belonged to Madhya Pradesh but was presently living in Surat (Gujarat).

It transpired in the enquiry that Pragya Thakur was an active member of the ABVP (student wing of RSS) a decade ago and was also the national executive secretary of Durga Vahini, VHP's women's wing. The two wheeler used in the blast belonged to her.

A preliminary enquiry with Pragya Thakur led the police to two of her associates namely Shamal Sahu and Shivnaryan Sarasingh both belonging to M.P. Sahu was a BJP member. They had helped Sadhvi in executing the plan. All three were arrested by the police on 23 Oct 2008.

A mere perusal of some newspaper reports during the period of the investigation would reveal how professionally and impartially Hemant Karkare was proceeding with the investigation.

1. Pragya Thakur was subjected to a brain mapping test which showed that she was telling the truth about her iinvolvement in the terrorist attack. She was earlier subjected to a narco analysis test.

2. Lt Col Prasad Purohit, a serving army officer, was arrested on for terror conspiracy in the Malegaon blast case. He was the co founder of Abhinav Bharat, a right wing Hindu organisation. He admitted that he was the mastermind.

3. Purohit met Pragya Thakur on 5 Oct 2008 to tell her that "Our People" had carried out the killings in Orissa, burnt down two churches and also carried out the Malegaon blast.

4. Lt Col Purohit's laptop suspected to contain the names of 58 youths who had undergone arms training at Pune in 2003 as disclosed in Nanded blast case went missing from his Panchmadi.

5. The laptop of Lt Col Purohit was finally traced. It contained the list of persons who attended the training camp at Pune and vital information about Malegaon conspiracy.

6. In his narco analysis test, Lt Col Purohit gave sensational information that he supplied explosives for Ajmer and Malegaon blasts at the instance of Mahant Dayanand Pandey.

7. During his narco analysis test, Lt Col Purohit told officers that Praveen Togadia was responsible for the Samjhauta Express Blasts. He asked me to find out from Dr Dev, how much RDX was remaining after the blast.

8. At a meeting of Purohit, Pandey and Pragya Thakur held in Bhopal on 12 April 2008, Dayanand Pandey had asked Purohit to supply RDX for the blast. Meeting was also held at Faridabad and Pune.

9. Lt Col Purohit also said that Swami Asimanand of Dangs had informed him that Sunil Joshi, the man who had sold Pragya Thakur's motorcycle, was also involved in Ajmer Sharif bombing of 11 Oct 2007.

10. Pragya had disclosed her connections with Shabri Dham Ashram Mahant and VHP leader of Dangs, Asimanand Swami. Pragya and Purohit used to have frequent telephonic conversations with him. Immediately after the blast he had a talk with Pragya Thakur.

11. The role of BJP MP of Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath and BJP MLA Das Agarwal is suspected in the conspiracy.

12. The Police informed the MCOCA court on 26 Nov about the recovery of Mahant Dayanand Pandey's laptop containing clipping of video and audio recordings of various meetings the Mahant held with Pragya Thakur, Col Purohit and others.

The gov pleader told the MCOCA court that Pandey, Purohit and Pragya were seen to be speaking about the RDX, chemical bombs and their use.

As the investigation was exposing a networks of right wing Hindus from the Sang Parivar behind the bombs blasts in Nanded, Malegaon 2006, Ajmer Dargah and Samjhauta Express, Mumbai terror attack took place in which Hemant Karkare died in a mysterious attack on CST-CAMA Lane.

Investigations of Malegaon bomb blast were interrupted. The only beneficiary of Mumbai terror attack were Pragya Thakur, Lt Col Purohit and hardcore brahminists like Himani Savarkar, Col Chitale and former BJP Milind Ekbote.

Karkare was a lone warrior against the Sang Parivar.
