In 1991, Charles and Diana had been married for ten years and had their second child, Harry, in 1984.

There had been considerable speculation about the state of their marriage for years after Harry’s birth.

I recall press reports in summer 1991 questioning whether Charles and Diana would even be together on significant days: Diana’s 30th birthday on 1 July and their tenth wedding anniversary on 29 July.

It was generally accepted the royal couple were two very different people.

Things came to a head in June 1992 with @andrewmortonUK’s sensational biography of Diana describing her unhappy childhood and turbulent marriage to Charles including two suicide attempts

Prime Minister John Major announced the couple’s separation to Parliament on 9 December 1992
