Can’t imagine what Kurapika had to go through to get the amount of Scarlet Eyes he has now. We saw how much he went through to get one pair in Yorkshin.

For someone as justice oriented as Kurapika being driven to become a beast in human skin, he must have sacrificed so much :/
I am pretty sure Kurapika didn’t kill Neon Nostrade due to his self-imposed restriction that he wouldn’t kill anyone outside of the Phantom Troupe. He also mentioned to Mizaistom that he never killed anyone who owned Scarlet Eyes but had done what it took to make them bend over.
What I’m sure happened was a lot of blackmailing, intimidation, threatening, and acting in a demeanor we know Kurapika hates doing... Hunter Exam and Yorknew Kurapika was very honorable seen from his interactions with Leorio, Gon/Killua, and even Pakunoda.
Kurapika ostracizing his friends is probably two-part: as a mafia boss and during his quest, he might have made a lot of enemies and is scared of endangering his friends. He probably feels as if he has changed so much that he doesn’t DESERVE Leorio, Gon, Killua, Melody...
Kurapika also knows the time he spends with his friends soften him. Look how Hunter Exam/ Zoldyck Arc Kurapika was like contrasted to Yorknew and beyond. He is willing to suspend his revenge quest to follow Gon around for a bit. He smiles, laughs, and has light in his eyes.
Kurapika also feels a lot of survivor’s guilt for being the only member of the Kurta to survive. He might also wonder if that outburst in the town led the Phantom Troupe to the Kurta which I feel like he might think about. He feels the need to atone for surviving the massacre.
Guilt is a common theme in Kurapika’s characterization. His reckless ways as a child are what led to Pairo’s accident though the latter doesn’t remember that. It’s what drove Kurapika to want to go to the outside world in the first place aside from seeking adventure
However, revenge does not bring Kurapika true happiness. The act of killing and the emotions surrounding it, coupled with the visceral disgust he felt over killing Uvogin and the realization that the Phantom Troupe had bonds between one another makes him question his own motives.
Kurapika's duty to the dead which conflicts his desire and contentment from spending time with the living is such a sad internal struggle. When you think about what he's going to do after he collects all the eyes, it won't bring his clan back. Or killing the entire Phantom Troupe
I think the Dark Continent arc is already doing a beautiful job of orchestrating Kurapika's realization that he is not a human solely driven by revenge. His interactions with Prince Woble and reminiscing that he lives for more than revenge where he recalls his friends show it
Even though he starts the journey being focused on the eyes and even Queen Oito sees Kurapika has ulterior motives, Kurapika has realized he genuinely cares about Woble's well-being. He goes out of his way to ensure the latter's safety even though he's had opportunities to bail
I think Prince Woble, who's been shown to be extra perceptive as an infant can see this light in Kurapika that is still there. Kurapika has always been shown to be righteous in that he is committed to protecting the innocent- Pairo, his anger during Hanzo v. Gon, his nen pledge..
Kurapika still shows hesitance to doing anything outright evil and still has a soft spot for his friends- calls Killua who recommends Bisky, expresses gratitude to Leorio after he starts settling down in the Zodiacs, and asks if Gon still needs any help when Mizai fills him in
Anyways even though I make a LOT of jokes, I actually absolutely love Kurapika's character and can talk about it for days! But in conclusion, he's been through a lot offscreen, I'm sure he cares deeply about his friends, I don't think he killed Neon or anyone he didn't have to
Sorry for the super long thread but if anyone ever wants to hear all my thoughts on Kurapika... I'D LOVE TO SEE IT I HAVE WAY MORE LOL
I'd also like to point out what an absolute genius Kurapika is for how he's handling everything on the Black Whale right now. The nen divination tests to learn everyone's nen type, the literal prisoner's dilemma situation with the Third Prince, and his sense of calm is 💯
