From @daviddoel calling for troops to remain in Syria as human shields to @BlackSocialists urging further US military intervention on behalf of Syrian Kurds to this in Oakland - there are some who got real lost in the woods as to the implications US imperialism & Balkanization. https://twitter.com/alloutbay/status/1190778831474503681
The various ethnic Kurdish peoples are entitled to their quest for autonomy and self determination within the region. But let’s be clear, leftists should not be picking sides is sectarian conflicts and invoking the imperial machine that is America as a means to said ends.
The deeper question: beyond Balkanization, why would western imperial capitalist powers provide military cover for a Communist styled enclave in the heart of a war torn country? Well, oil, of course.
Who might serve to benefit immediately from the seizing of these reserves? What major regional power would benefit from a close economic & military partnership? The Kurdish / Israeli partnership is real and dates back to the 1960s continuing to this day based via oil & security.
Rewind about a month ago: given the above it may come as no surprise that information has came out that the Israeli strikes on Iranian backed militias in Iraq did not originate from Israel but rather Kurdish held Syria.
So, where does this leave Kurdish alignment in relationship to war with Iran? Alignment in solidarity with the Palestinian people? End of the day, where does that align American leftists when they block freeways for Rojava? Looking a lot like neocons, foolishly at that.
