If you wonder why I advocate so strongly for #ADHD medication treatment, even before therapy, here's a true story that just happened. (thread)

I'm in one of the most beautiful hand-craft stores. :) I currently take a short-acting medication, & didn't realize it had worn off.
2.
The back of the store has adorable, bright, colorful hand-made baby toys: mobiles, clocks, swaddling blankets, etc.
I was suddenly overwhelmed w/grief, & thoughts like, "I wasted my babies' childhood on anxiety and fundamentalism. I should have enjoyed this time, & I didn't."
I've worked through all of these thoughts before.
I've worked through all of this grief before.
I've talked and talked about this, but in the middle of a joyous, relaxing time, the emotions reached up from the past and slapped me across the face.
I've been medicated LONG enough to recognize what this is. Instead of entertaining these intrusive, disruptive thoughts, I looked at the clock.
I'd forgotten my meds.
We'd had such a joyous time at the last restaurant, connecting w/the owner & her son (and with each other) that
....I'd missed or turned off my reminder.
Emotional regulation is SEVERELY affected by ADHD, because when we get older, hyperactivity turns inward. 😒
It doesn't help that I also have PMDD. (Last week was previously called "hell week", because I honestly thought I was being
...spiritually attacked for years. It turns out, I have a severe drop in hormones every cycle. It's getting worse as I get older, but medication truly lifted me out of a nearly-incapacitating cycle of depression & relief.)

So, I'm sitting in a comfortable couch, w/my coffee,
...waiting for the grief to subside. I know it will.
I also know that too many people don't understand that therapy doesn't stop a hyperactive mind from digging up pain that decomposed a long time ago. I hope this encourages some of you to pursue medication treatment. /fin
