OpenSignal found that 17% of U.S. subscribers and 19% of wireless connections still were using the outdated air interface as recently as last year. 83% of users still served by 3G have 4G-capable devices but do not have a 4G plan.

Okay, so we have a date here finally. NTT Docomo will switch off it's 3G FOMA (launched October 2001) on 31st March 2026 #2G3Gshutdown
Elisa, Finland is shutting down their 3G and refarming the frequency for 4G. After 2023, 3G users will fall back to 2G network. Use of the 2G network continues as before. Some old 3G equipment (hunting cameras, etc.) would need replacement.

In South Korea, SK Telecom and LG U+ will be switching off their 2G/3G CDMA Networks in June 2021. For some reason they call their CDMA2000+ networks as 2G because they also have HSPA networks that are called 3G networks

One of the biggest challenges for AT&T with 3G sunset is VoLTE roaming. After all these years, there are 887 MNO's in the world, 736 have LTE, 238 have VoLTE but only between 30-50 support VoLTE roaming 🙄

Looking at this chart from Vodafone FY21 Interin results - https://investors.vodafone.com/sites/vodafone-ir/files/result_document/vodafone-h1-fy21-results-presentation.pdf - don't think there will be a #2G3GShutdown in Africa soon. #OpenRAN will help speed up transitioning to newer generations though.
