Hezbollah are held to an impossible standard. I’m losing track of the amount of disingenuous and stupid arguments against it that ignore the huge and manifold pressures that it operates against and the constant and delicate balancing act it has to perform, especially since 2005.
This idea that it should have somehow dismantled endemic corruption and transformed Lebanon’s economic system for the better single-handedly is ridiculous, notably because if it attempted to do so it would be accused of taking over the country and attacked from multiple angles.
It has to balance maintaining its mil. capability, its desire to enact reform & the need to maintain the delicate pol. equilibrium in Lebanon. These things can sometimes be contradictory, leaving it stuck between a rock & a hard place - esp w so many enemies, internal & external.
A very insightful explanation of the broader historical (and current) context of this: https://twitter.com/amalsaad_lb/status/1187019607326056449?s=20
