Want to give a conference talk, but don't think you have anything to talk about?
I bet you do! This will be a thread.

If you are more senior, you may think your knowledge is basic and obvious, or your work isn't interesting.
But the things you know aren't basic and obvious to everyone! Someone who is newer to what you do wants to learn more about it, and your knowledge and experience can help.

Have you tried to do some research or implement something and had problems along the way, or failed entirely? Did you learn anything from those problems? Cool!
Sharing the lessons learned from failure can make for awesome talks, and we can learn from each other's mistakes!

If you are more junior, you may think you don't know enough to give a talk yet.
People who are still learning have fresh eyes and perspectives, & are often well-situated to teach others about the process and pain points of learning. Senior folks tend to forget what that's like!

Do you think you need to have a talk fully prepared before you can submit an abstract for it?

What do you actually need in order to give a conference talk?
You have to have a perspective, and something to say. And you have both of those already, right now.
Each one of us has something to teach and something to learn. I hope someday I get to learn from you! <3
