Since it’s #PronounsDay, it’s time to share mine.

The truth is: no pronouns feel complete enough to encompass how I understand myself today. He/him/his and the wider concept of masculinity has started to feel more and more distant over the years.
They/them don’t feel like home yet. But I certainly appreciate them. She/her/hers are still not it. And some of the other ones I’ve seen also do not feel like home nor like me.

#PronounsDay
This used to bother me. I used to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the right one was for me. Eventually I gave up and accepted the glorious fact that, in this moment, I can exist and be without needing a label for how expansive I understand myself to be.
#PronounDay
So where does that leave me?

It leaves me with 3 names I love: Jonathan Jayes-Green.

If you want to most closely honor my gender identify, just use my name(s) instead. I’ll even allow y’all to call me JJG if we’re close.

#PronounsDay
If y’all use he/him or they/them, that’s fine too.

Using pronouns respectfully in reference to my identity vs. not is the difference between a B+ and an A+.

To be honest, I mostly tune them out in my head when people use them referring to me.

#PronounsDay
All of this can be true for myself while also committing to respecting and honoring other people’s pronouns.

I can do both.

And hope other folks can do the same for me. ✌🏾
