For clarity, in Denmark the prison estate is mixed with separate wings but some mixed social areas. This has, surprisingly , not been good for a large amount of women. Therefore there are now new prisons being built to fully segregate the sexes

This older article reports that women have been sexually abused, assaulted, raped, entered prostitution whilst in prison. Apparently the decision to make prisons mixed sex was implemented in 2000 and by 2014 they realised it was not working. The chair of the Prisons Union

This is the report this was based on. It confirms that 25% of women have been abused by male prisoners behaving bars. Personally I’d imagine that the figure is much higher as I’m sure much abuse go unreported due to fear.

Just adding this as there seem to be some confusion. The prisons are mixed sex for all, not specifically for trans. The violence women have experienced is from males no matter how they identify. The case at the start of the thread is about a tw wanting to be housed with women
