Let me tell yall the story of how my daddy left a funeral to help me load a horse into a trailer, got his horse groomed and tacked, and then rode his horse back to the funeral to lead the procession on horseback!!

I have 6 horses and I needed to down size my herd to 4. I have been looking for someone to adopt Shigure and I finally found the perfect fit. Her and her husband came down yesterday afternoon.
Before they came to pick her up, I let them know I have never loaded her in a trailer before so it would not be easy. The wife was okay with that. She still wanted her. 2pm rolls around and here they are ready to take her home. Meanwhile Shigure is looking at that trailer like...
Alright for my non-horse ppl. The worst trailer you can try to load a horse into who has never been in a trailer is a 2 horse straight load. It is small, dark, and small.
I tried to coax her in with feed. We tried talking to her. She was not having it. So what I do?? I went and grabbed her brother and loaded him into the trailer. This fool wouldnât load & I am out there sweating trying to get him in.
I finally got Ardnet in by coaxing him with food
. I raised this horse and he get on my nerves. So now Shigure was like, âok if he going, Iâm going.â AND WE ALMOST GOT HER IN but she pulled the rope back and changed her mind. This is when I called my daddy twice.

He asked me to swe if they would wait 30mins. They said yes. The wife continued to talk to Shigure. She actually got her to step into the trailer I had to sit down bc I was seeing stars. Iâm anemic and when I get overworked I can hardly stand. 15mins goes by & my daddy pulls up
I wish I took a picture of this. He took these straps, looped them together, made a harness around Shigure and pulled her 1000lb self into that trailer with all his strength in his dang on church suit!!! If yâall ainât know, my daddy is a bad man!
She reared up, fell, and then she jumped right into the trailer. Sounds crazy but she wasnât hurt at all. Now what happened next threw me for a dang loop! ARDENT WOULD NOT GET OUT OF THE TRAILER! My dad had to pull him by his legs! Zoom in
Finally, he got Ardent out.
Put Ardent in the pasture.
Grabbed his horse.
And rode back to the funeral to lead the procession.

After this he rode back to the farm. My dad, Donal Gooch, is a living legend. He is 20+ years sober. He created everything he said he would create. From the first black cowboy magazine, race track, & now Gooch Sports Arena. He gave me this wonderful life w/horses. I love you dad
