My musings on the issue of the Out Of India (OIT) vs Aryan invasion/immigration theory (AIT).
After results came out, some have taken stance by rejecting the recent genetic studies claiming the authors are agenda driven to prove Indo-European origin in the steppe while other have taken extreme step to reject genetics entirely.
I have various scenarios in my mind, here is one of them. There is nothing wrong in accepting that Aryans migrated into India during late Harappan times.
The old theory of Aryan invasion with large scale genocide of natives (peddled by leftists, ambedkarites, dravidianists, evangelists etc) & population replace is no longer tenable as the studies suggest that it was rather a case of inter mingling & assimilation.
If there was a large scale genocide, then there wouldn't have been 70% Harappan ancestry among Ancestral North Indians (ANI). This means that northern Indians are also descendants of ancient Harappans and share the ancestry & legacy of the Harappans.
The late dates of Rig Veda from 1200-1000 BCE is also not plausible because the studies point out that the movement happened as early as 2000 BCE (perhaps small waves from steppes came & started mingling with Harappan elites even earlier).
Perhaps Rig Vedic era is marked archaeologically by Cemetery H culture, which also had connections with earlier mature Harappan culture, albeit with widespread practice of cremation. This culture also suits core geography of RV. Check map below of late/post Harappan cultures..
The new studies in no way harms Hindu nationalism, as vast majority of Hindus share Harappan ancestry apart from smaller amount of steppe ancestry and hence, are 'sons of the soil'.
Also as a person who has been following genetic studies over the past years, I look matters also in POV or genetics. Apart from that, from a traditional POV, where Aryans came from or what was their previous lands doesn't really matter
as it is clear from Rig Veda itself that Sarasvati-Drsadvati river region was called on as 'best place on earth' by the Vedic sages. This region remained important during later era as, and was known as Brahmavarta.
So we have archaic pramana from the shruti that our holy land is within Bharatavarsha, and that alone matters for Hindu nationalism. We never bow down before the alien lands daily or conduct annual pilgrimage to alien lands like abrahamists do.
