"what is #ADHD coaching?"
A thread:
ADHD Coaching is a subset of life coaching geared toward helping individuals with ADHD learn to manage & mitigate the more negative impacts of their ADHD and harness their strengths
In ADHD coaching, your coach is not an expert above you but rather your teammate and helping you to define realize and move towards your goals, with the additional step of thinking through how ADHD can get in your way and how it can help you
ADHD coaching is not about me telling you what to do, although I will from time to time make suggestions if you don't have any ideas. Think of a soccer coach; they don't kick the ball for you, they help you learn how to kick the ball better
ADHD can impact our ability to hold big picture or long-term goals in our mind and move consistently toward them without getting distracted or overwhelmed, not knowing what to prioritize, etc
ADHD also often undermines our self-esteem due to a lifetime of negative comments and mistakes. Coaching helps you to find your strengths, and your coaches there to help prop you up, celebrate your wins with you, and remind you that you are awesome!
Your coach is not there to solve problems for you and ultimately responsibility to take action lies with you, but the coach create space for you to slow down and think deeply about what you need and what you want.
a coach will ask deep and insightful questions and point out truths about yourself that you may have not noticed, as well as highlighting areas where you may be holding yourself back
A coach inspires you to follow your dreams, play to your strengths and be the best version of yourself that you can be. And ADHD coach helps you to find the most effective hacks to manage your ADHD.
this is going to be different for everyone, and it's the reason that I don't just tell people what to do. You can learn ideas from a book. There are plenty of resources to get tips and ideas, but you probably already know that and maybe it hasn't worked.
Coaching gives you the support and the strength to keep trying, to tweak and make changes to what you're trying, to attain consistency, and to analyze what will make something work for YOU
coaching works best when people are interested in taking action in their life, are willing to accept responsibility for their life, and have something that they want to achieve, even if that's just being a better partner, a cleaner person, or better at their job.
Some of the things I've helped people with ADHD with include getting a handle on their personal hygiene, getting a job or changing jobs, improving their marriages or relationships, improving their self-confidence, and realizing/planning to move toward their dreams.
at the end of the day, I'm here to love my clients, hold space for them, encourage them, and remind them that they are brave and amazing individuals. I'm not an expert in anything; my clients are. Sometimes I'm an admin assistant, sometimes I'm a cheerleader.
