In those five years, 57 quarterbacks were drafted. 11 of them have shown flashes of being legitimate franchise-caliber quarterbacks in the NFL. Bridgewater, Carr, Garoppolo, Winston, Mariota, Goff, Wentz, Prescott, Trubisky, Mahomes, Watson.
Where you have Prescott ranked is up to you, but it's likely No. 5 behind Mahomes, Watson, Goff, and Wentz (though the latter two is certainly debatable). So from the 2013-2017 drafts, there aren't FIVE better QBs than Prescott.
The Cowboys roster is too strong to "move on from Dak". Either they would have to sacrifice tons of future draft capital to move up for a quarterback (who might not be good), and those draft picks are incredibly valuable for a team that A. Drafts well and B. has expensive players
The other option is to sign an expensive veteran. The list of Qbs that could be free agents next year includes Brees, Brady, Eli Manning, and Rivers. The Cowboys aren't signing them even if they are magically free agents.
Other options are Keenum, Bridgewater, Tannehill, Winston, Mariota, Chase Daniel, Henne, Stanton, McCoy, Sudfeld, McCarron, Siemian, Glennon, Hundley, Hoyer, Gabbert, Bortles, the list gets worse from there.
So, enlightened people, tell me the better option on the horizon for the Cowboys then extending Prescott no matter the market rate.
