My next short history
education thread will be on the difference between being a Muzombo & Mukongo. Many people think the two are the same but they are very different. So watch out for it!!

(1)Definitions:
Mukongo; an individual belonging to the Bakongo people. Kongo being an Ethnonyms & Mu being its plural prefix. Bakongo (People) Mukongo (Person).
Mukongo; an individual belonging to the Bakongo people. Kongo being an Ethnonyms & Mu being its plural prefix. Bakongo (People) Mukongo (Person).
(1.5) Definitions:
Bazombo; a subgroup of the Bakongo people, from the Uige (Angolan
Province) territory of Maquela do Zombo. Bazombo (People) Muzombo (Person).
Bazombo; a subgroup of the Bakongo people, from the Uige (Angolan

(2) Many people have the misconception that those who have both Angolan and Congolese decent, are automatically Muzombo’s. This belief is highly incorrect and will be also be covered in this thread!
(3) The ancient inhabitants of the Mbanza Zombo belonged to the Mbata subgroup (Mbata Kingdom made an alliance Mpembe Kasi Kingdom through marriage to create Kongo Dia Ntotila). This was located in the current Bas Congo and Malebo Pool area. (between Kinshasa & Brazzaville)
(4) Uige is one of the 18 provinces of Angola, which in turn is made up of 16 territories, including Maquela do Zombo. The Bazombos inhabit 5 of the territories in Uige: Quibocolo, Sakandika, Beu, Bembe and Kuilu Futa.
(4.5) You can also find a Muzombo within the Ndamba territory in the commune of Nkama Ntambu (Kinkama). But in a nutshell, if an Angolan is not from the territory of Maquela Do Zombo they are not Muzombo.
(5) Outside of Bazombo, there are other Bakongo tribes in Uige, Such as: Bansoso (majority in Uige), Bawandu, Bawumbu, Basolongo, Bapombo, Bayaka, Basuku, Basikongo (Basansala), Bakanu, Balungi, Basundi and Bawayo (You can also find some of these tribes in Congo).
(5.5) Those who are apart of the Bakongo tribes mentioned, would be classed as Mukongo’s, and should not/cannot, be classed as Muzombo’s.
(6) There are also Bazombo’s in Congo but they are just Angolans who migrated to Congo to avoid the Angola Civil war and conflicts. This is where the confusion of people thinking that, those of Angolan & Congolese descent are Muzombo’s derives from.
(7) To summaries:
- Muzombo’s are Bakongo’s.
- Not every Angolan is a Muzombo.
This concludes my thread! As always guys, feel free to ask questions, discuss and add additional info. We are all here to learn and I am always willing to learn from others.
