Thread of my experience in China!! (1)
I’d like to start off by showing you guys the hilarious “Beijing bikini” which is when men lift up their shirts half way in the summer time when it’s too hot and just walk around like this 😂 They also often touch their stomachs in public
(2)
Most people don’t drive cars bc it’s extremely expensive and also inconvenient to have in a big city so instead they drive ebikes or just ride normal bikes! In the winter they even have bike jackets that cover their body when riding
(3)
Dryers aren’t really a thing in China. It’s not often people steal there so they just hang their clothes up outside
(4)
UMBRELLAS. In the summer it’s 90° out and everyone hides from the sun with umbrellas, n wear pants&long sleeves too. A common beauty standard there is to have porcelain skin. They often edit their pictures to appear paler and even the government whitens everyone’s ID picture
(5)
Squattie potties!! These are the public bathrooms in China. Wayyy more often than not I would have to bring my own toilet paper bc there was none and also no soap or paper towels. It also would always reek of piss in the bathrooms and I’d have to hold my breath
(6)
Many people in China have never seen a white person before and especially not blonde hair & blue eyes so they’re fascinated. There was never a moment in China I was not being stared at or pictures taken of me. People would ask me to take pictures with them & their kids daily
(7)
Homeless people have puppies that they sell. There are secret puppy mills that they get them from for extremely cheap and they sell them on the street to get money. People feel bad for the puppy so it usually leads to more people giving them money too
(8)
They had mini karaoke booths that 1-3 people could go in. People also like to go to KTV where you n your friends can rent out a room with couches, a big flat screen tv and drinks and sing karaoke with eachother. The tv would have the music video &lyrics. I wish we had that ):
(9)
Weird & random English lmao. You know how people get Chinese characters tattood on them and they aren’t 100% sure what it means or when Chinese is on shirts for an aesthetic? Well they do the same with English 😂 Also the store names are hilarious, a purse shop called “Salad”
(10)
I especially didn’t like the excessive amount of plastic use in China. Theres not much going on there with limiting plastic use, if anything it seems they’re using way more than is even necessary. This is a single cup plastic bag bc holding ONE cup is “inconvenient” right?
(11)
SMOL cars. I thought these were hilarious. Some of them fit 1-3 people meanwhile half the population in the US wouldn’t be able to fit in it 😂 crazy stuff
(12)
At a lot of clubs in China, fake US money would fall like confetti lmaoo also the clubs there were INSANE, amazing production, lighting, & US music at a LOT of them. It was banger throwbacks all night, better than our club music. One club had a “vomit pool” for sick ppl😂
(13)
Some of the shops/convenience stores were COMPACT. Like barely could walk in kind of small 😂 It was amazing what they could fit in such a small place! In that third picture, the guy had just woken up from a nap and right after I took the picture he giggled at me hahaha
(14)
These are just some of the funny bags I’ve seen. Fashion and aesthetic is entirely different in China than here. There’s not as many unspoken “rules” of what looks nice or cute or right, it’s basically a free for all. I’ll make a few posts after this with more of the fashion
(15)
FASHION IN CHINA, specifically old lady fashion was extremely extravagant, colorful, pattern on pattern, color on color.
(16)
FASHION IN CHINA PT. 2, children’s fashion was always something really cute/funny or traditional-style. Either way it was worth taking a pic of every time 😂
(17)
FASHION IN CHINA PT. 3, unexplainable
(18)
FASHION IN CHINA PT. 4, a lot of old men would wear their dad hats on top of their head and tilted to the side gangster-style😂 Then captured a pic of these fish shoes, and I did see some young women wearing traditional outfits like the last 2 occasionally
